I have both a Google Pixel 2 XL and a Note 8, so Gear/Google VR seems appealing to me. It seems to be not too shit while not being that expensive. I cannot justify getting the Vive at the current price it is at. Spending near $1000 to watch porn is not for me. Thank you for the insight, I appreciate it!
Yes, I have a PC that is more than capable of running the Vive or Oculus without breaking a sweat. I can see myself getting an Oculus but as I mentioned earlier the Vive for just viewing porn is too expensive for me. With the new Vive headset are you talking about the wireless one? 'Cause that did catch my eye.
I don't get why JAV VR would look worse on a PC with better specs and equipment as opposed to a mid to high tier phone viewing experience?
Microsoft Mixed Reality maybe another cheaper option, last time i check it was around 230++usd from amazon (HP brand - the other seems like hasnt down the price).
from my own experience (i have used gearvr, oculus and have my own HP mr), for vewing 3d video content, i think gearvr is good enough, you dont need to upgrade to mixed reality/oculus/vive ... as the extra features is not used for viewing 3d video, eg. the depth sensing, as you will only be able to look up down left right, but you cant move in and out.
unless you want to play those vr games, eg vr kanojo, then you need one of those vr/mr device.
regarding quality, it is really depend on a lot of factors : the source resolution and frame rate, the resolution of the device and the process power of the device.
for comparison, on the same device, the source with higher resolution and higher frame rate will look more pleasant, but up to certain resolution it will look the same, as you have reached the limit of the device resolution, so in the end it will just burden your device processing power without gaining any quality in viewing.
wish to use my xperia z5 premium to watch as it has the highest resolution (4K display) but the processing power is suck, as the processor heat up very fast and causing the screen to lag, oh ya .. device refresh rate is another problem
