AV Open Awards
Taken from JAV News
For a very long time, the JAV industry didn’t have any notable awards for quality adult videos, something equivalent to the AVN Awards in the United States.
To remedy this situation a bit, Tokyo Sports (one of the tabloids paper company in Japan) and SOD (Soft on Demand) together started hosting a large scale contest for best adult videos for each year (Still nothing even close the AVN Awards though). Sixteen AV production companies participated in this contest, and each company selects a candicate video for the company and the sales of that video is counted for a certain period of time. The production company who had the most-sold candidate video in that period wins the first place and gets ¥10000000 (= $91,194). The second place is $5000000 (= $45,602) and the third $300000 (= $27,361).
Well, things didn’t go that smooth.
The second contest, which was held in May 2007, turned out to involve a scandal by one of its hosts — SOD. SOD won the first place by a large margin in this contest, but, it turned out that a large fraction of the sales of the title made in the contest peroid were bought by SOD themselves. This violated the contest rule, and titels after the second place for the contest were moved up.
Real Winners for the 2nd AV Open Awards
1st Place: Lots of Popular S1 Girls / Hyper Girigiri Mosaic Special Bath Tsubaki
2nd Place: Misa Kikouden / Celebrity Debut
3rd Place:Nayuka Mine, Ichika, Chihiro Hara, Erina Kurosawa / Dream School 11
Fake 1st Place for the 2nd AV Open Awards
Fake 1st: Kotono / Celebrity
Because of this scandal, the next contest probably won’t be held and the official site is already shut down. Also, Hokuto — the rival of SOD — started a similar contest called AV GrandPrix Awards, and there are 77 production companies participating, so this will likely to replace the AV Open Awards.
AV Grandprix Awards
AV Grandprix started 2008, so it’s brand-new. So far only one contest was held in 2008.
Below is the 2008 Grandprix Awards for the 3 major awards — AV Grandprx 2008 Highest Award, Grandprix Stage Highest Award, and Mania Stage Higest Award:
AV Grandprx 2008 Highest Award

Grandprix Stage Highest Award
Stage Winner: Nao Mizuki, Minori Hatsune / confirmed x confirmed x girigiri mosaic
Mania Stage Higest Award
Mania Award: Rika Nagasawa, Reiko Himekawa, Masami / Female body torture laboratory
Did you find your favorite titles or actors in the winners? If so, the Grandprix Awards can be a good source for finding what you want to watch next. Next one will be held in 2009. We’ll report as soon as it comes out.
