Celebrity wife セレブ妻?

There's a bunch of JAV movies that have セレブ妻 in the title. It's usually translated as celebrity wife, but in the movie neither the wife or the husband are actually celebrities.

Did I understand correctly the term is better translated as Trophy Wife? Or did I get it wrong and do they mean something else entirely?

I think you may be right about the trophy wife thing. For years i thought its kinda dumb gimmick to trick ppl into thinking they are celebrities.

Believe the loan word is basically used to mean posh or well heeled, not specifically a celebrity, cf. the studio Celebrity (Sex) Friends, eg. codes CESD, CEMD, CETD.
