DEAR MODERATORS... Time, perhaps, to lay down the law on "Discussion"?

I've been sniffing about in these parts long enough to know that once in a while, the lines became blurred in the "Discussion" forum, and we would sometimes get questions that belonged elsewhere.

Well, we have to make allowances when these slip-ups occur, now and then.

Yet in the last few months, I have been noticing a preponderance of them. The problem has gone unchecked for so long, now it has become an avalanche..!

The following are from the first two pages of Discussion:

Who is this JAV actress?
(By
Panpoot - Member since 2013.)
Who is this jav actress?please help ^^
(By 13lazingbruce - Member since 2008.)
Need help for identification hot stewardess
(By
Imam4626 - Member since 2013.)

(By Pavel08 - Apparently new member, off-the-hook.)
Looking for expert who know this actress ?
(By

(By Rojobum - Brand new member, off-the-hook. And if really a lady, more off-the-hook.)
Need help looking for this jav actress
(By Rojobum - See above.)
Sooo cute actress but no name identified, Please help !!!
(By Thuhoai.nguyenle - Brand new member, off-the-hook.)
Anyone know this actress?
(By Geon Tae Park - Brand new member, off-the-hook.)
What's the title of this clip?
(By Pornlover234 - Brand new member, off-the-hook.)
Need help with this idol (IDTP)
(By Rvbcabooservb - Member since 2009.)
Which Jav Is this one (Anri Okita)
(By Zekesky! - Member since 2012.)

Not all questions are confused with the
Identification Help forum; we also get mix-ups with the Request + Trade section, as with the following:

Looking for MIRD-001
(By Pornlover234 - See above.)

Yep, it's just got out out of hand. (Remember, all of the above came from only the first two current pages of Discussion. It's a mighty high percentage.)

And it's not as though I'm a stickler for these things. My attitude in the past has always been, ahhhh, what's the harm? Now it has become a problem, though. Those of us who visit
Discussion wish to see mostly Discussion-related... ehh... discussions..!

Our amazing squad of puzzle solvers can't be expected to ignore queries that have not been placed in the proper section. They are much too kind-hearted.

Gentleman Codegeek was the only one in the past trying to set things right, by responding with "Should be moved to the such-and-such forum" messages, but when ignored too many times, he has given up. No one can blame him.

Speaking of blame (ohhh, how I love to assign blame), the reason why I included the "Member since..." information for each "perpetrator" was because I wanted to shame them! You'd think many who had been around for a while would know better.

But as you can see, many have joined very recently, and they get to be off-the-hook for being green. As for those who have been around longer, many have posted very few messages, so these mostly-inactive-participants are kind of green, too.

And we can't blame our tireless and unselfish moderators; they have so many things to take care of, before attending to the the tedious task of moving misplaced messages.

So we are in a real pickle here, one which only the moderators can solve. Only... what can be done? Don't ask me, I only know how to complain, not to provide solutions.

Maybe it should be like in video games. Before the real game starts you always have to do a tutorial which explains the mechanics of the game to the gamer / player. ;)

I guess the problem are new members who seem to just have time too much pressure on their bladder. So they post their problem or question right in the first section which somehow seems to fit before they jump up from their chairs and run to the toilet. At least it gives me the impression that they have under some kind of immense (time) pressure so they don't take the time and effort to analyse which things are posted in which section by looking at other posts. But maybe that is only my special secret technique when I'm new at a forum. ;)

I could stop IDing them, but I don't think that would solve the problem. So for now I'm going to ignore the fact they're in the wrong part of the forum.

I agree. Maybe you could explain how things work here. But that will only help if they didn't register themselves for just that one question. And it takes more of your precious time.

Rules are rules and everyone should be expected to follow them. My very first post (of a title) on here was met with a slap on the wrist because there was already a thread for that title. I had read some of the rules but didn't get that one. I corrected and haven't been given an infraction ever since. :D

I agree some are probably registering to just ask something. This place is just that awesome. Still, though, our awesome jugulear is right in thinking something should be at least looked at. Maybe we can band together and create a team. You know...the world's mightiest form members. Something like that. Kidding!!

But yes...I find it very annoying to go discuss and find requests instead.

And then there's the new jazz that everybody is jumping on: What's your favourite xxxxxxxx?
One topic is fine, 3 topics a day is just annoying.

Uh-oh! For the love of His Majesty at Burger King, let us not segue from "Posts that do not belong at Discussion," to "Types of discussions we can do without"..!

Also it's a little bit off topic I agree to that. :)

I don't know how many new members I informed that I they post in the wrong section since jugulear opened that thread here.
I guess one problem for new members might be that the forum is maybe - let's say - not very clearly arranged for them. For the old members it is clear, but maybe not for them.
You don't get much information what you can or can't post in a specific section. In the old forum there was at least one sentence which gave you a hint. Now that sentence is only available as tooltip if you move your mouse on the section title in the overview.
Maybe - if the software allows it - there should be a hint which is always visible. In the forum overview as well as if you're in that section. And maybe it should be a little bit longer and also mention which post don't belong to that section, but to the following other sections.
An example:
JAV discussion
Chat about the Japanese Adult Video industry here.
Please post identification requests for movies or actresses in the Identification Help orJAV Idol Identifications section, movie request in the Request and Trade or Request JAV section.
But I'm not sure if that would help as if there is too much text no one will read it and we have the same effect.
E.g. chompy put a sticky thread in each of the request sections which even says in its title that members should put the DVD code into the thread title. And there are many - especially new members - which don't seem to read or understand that very simply statement. :(

There seems to be an exodus of long-time members and a large influx of new ones. This also seems to be the case in one of the forum sites I frequented (SLF) when I was temporarily unable to post. I think the best way to prevent these "mistakes" is to require new members to read the rules before they post. I don't know if that limiting setting is existent (I haven't been a forum admin before), but if it is, at least it can minimize mistakes from one-time posters who just want to post single queries and never return.
