TOKYO (TR) – Early last year, former adult video(AV) star Yuma Asami shocked the industry and her fans with revelations that she was battling ovarian cancer.
Now on the road to recovery, the ex-starlet announced on Tuesday that she has written an autobiography, reports Sankei Sports (Apr. 9).
Scheduled to be released on May 8 by publisher Kodansha, “Restart: Believe In Yourself” includes the reasons for why she became an AV star, some family secrets and insights into the struggles she faced following surgery.
“Even though I hit a roadblock in my life I didn’t want to give in,” the former actress is quoted.
Asami began suffering from stomach problems in January of last year. Ovarian cancer was discovered following a subsequent MRI exam.
The following month, Asami had surgery to remove a tumor — classified as being between malignant and benign — in one of her ovaries. Doctors also removed her uterus and ovaries.
Asami, a native of Gunma Prefecture, was a member of Ebisu Muscats, a pop group of gravure (pin-up) models and AV idols which ended activities following a farewell tour in April of last year.
In 2005, Asami made her AV debut for label Alice Japan with “Innocent Hard-Core” and later that year appeared in “New Face Risky Mosaic” for S1. Three years later, she took the Most Appearances title at the Sky PerfecTV! AV awards.
Last August, Asami announced that she had completed six treatments for ovarian cancer.
She resumed her career as a gravure (pin-up) model in the fall. In a clip posted on YouTube, she said that her prognosis going forward was favorable.

The 27-year-old was charged with assisting in the creation of obscene electromagnetic media for the purpose distribution.
According to the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 8), the arrest is a reflection of the challenges educators face in making a living in the field.
Sugawara, a resident of Yokohama, performed under the name “Shizuru Junno” for conventional AV films, while “Reiko Maki” was used for uncensored productions available for download. (Japanese law dictates that genitalia must be properly censored in all films.)
The arrest stemmed from an appearance in “Married Killer,” a series that includes more than 800 films. “Meet Reiko Maki, a sexy, full-bodied wife with beautiful white skin,” announces the film’s promotional copy.
The Sankei says that Sugawara’s background is not that of a typical AV actress. According to the Cuore Music site, Sugawara — whose entry has since been removed — graduated from the music department of the Tokyo University of the Arts.
While in elementary and high school, she appeared in a number of television and radio programs for public broadcaster NHK as a part of its chorus group for children. In 2003, she was awarded top prize at a soloist contest for high school students in Kanagawa Prefecture.
According to the Sankei, the matter came to light following a complaint filed in January with Shizuoka Prefectural Police by a woman in her 20s who appeared in an uncensored production without her consent. An investigation was initiated, and the cyber patrol division later discovered the material featuring Sugawara on the Internet.
Officers were subsequently led to Koichi Kamidaki, a 45-year-old resident of Chiba Prefecture who works in the film production industry. He had hired Sugawara for the shooting of the video in question on April 13, 2011.
At a meeting inside a coffee shop in Tokyo, Sugwara admitted to having agreed to appear in the uncensored film. Officers arrested Kamidaki in October.
An AV industry insider indicates that a popular actress will earn between one and two million yen per production. Amateurs, like Sugawara, receive much less, possibly up to only 50,000 yen.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education said that Sugawara is an elite teacher at a number of elementary schools in Setagaya Ward. “She teaches students on a one-on-one basis with real enthusiasm,” said a representative of the board. “As well, her ability to communicate with other staff members is very high.”
The representative added that the board was stunned after learning of Sugawara’s other means of earning income.
As to a motive, the police are inconclusive. “It could have been due to money,” a representative of the police is quoted. “Human desire is infinite. She may have started in the industry out of curiosity.”
A teacher, also employed in Tokyo, tells the Sankei that earning a living in education is difficult. “The monthly wage for a part-time teacher might be just two million yen a year,” says the teacher. “So it could have simply been the result of life’s struggles. Or there may have been accumulated stress regarding the instability of the educational field.”
The Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education intends to deal with the matter in due course.

Well, it is disheartening that she got arrested for appearing in porn. Many of these ladies need to be awarded medals, instead. (What are they going after the performers for, anyway?) Now look at the repercussions the lady faced, with her real name being revealed. Shameful.
When so many other JAV actresses engage in uncensored work without getting harassed, the odds are this poor woman got singled out given her teaching profession, and the way in which she endangered the respectability of the teacher's image.

TOKYO (TR) – The purchase earlier this year by Shibuya Ward of an inn in Shizuoka Prefecture to be used as by senior citizens is raising concerns as the establishment had been featured in a number of adult videos (AV), it was revealed on Thursday, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (May 16).
The ward bought the land and buildings of the 3,300-square-meter Kikusuikan hot springs resort, located in the seaside area of Kawazu, in April with the intention that it be used for retreats for senior citizens.
“We had no idea (about its past as a film-shoot location),” says a ward representative. “It had no influence on the purchase.”
The five-floor structure has 26 rooms, some of which provided a backdrop in the shooting of at least 11 AV productions by label Moodyz between 2006 and 2013, according to weekly tabloid Friday. The films were a part of the label’s “Bako Bako Bus Tour” series.
“We used it for a number of shoots,” confirms a representative from the company.
In a screenshot provided by Friday, naked performers can be seen frolicking in the inn’s pool.
Constructed in 1927, Kikusuikan ceased operations in March after experiencing financial difficulties.
Shibuya Ward had been utilizing a similar facility for retreats in Kanagawa Prefecture. However, making reservations became difficult. A budget of 228 million yen was set aside this year for the purchase of the inn — priced, according to Friday, at 110 million yen — and renovation of its buildings, with a target of October for its opening.
A ward assemblyman, however, is concerned. “I wonder if citizens will want to use it,” says the assemblyman.
The ward spokesperson defends the purchase. “It does not matter what (the inn) was used for in the past,” says the representative. “We must proceed with creating peace of mind for residents who come to visit.”
