How come Hong Kong never developed strong domestic porn industry and in turn exportation market for XXX movies the way Japan did?

I been wondering about this considering the island's reputation for capitalism and as a prostitution hub esp in tandem with its strong film industry famed for exporting martial arts movies to the rest of the world.........

Why didn't Hong Kong develop a strong adult video market and other XXX goods the way Japan did? Especially as an export market (which Japan is known to be the largest in Asia for porno movies)?

probably for a number of reasons, including
a) being a british colony, with british censorship laws...mary whitehouse and the moral lobby kept HC porn out of britain for many decades...at least until britain joined the EU
b) HK is a small island off the coast of china and on its own would not have had a sustainable porn market, esp. given the harsh censorship laws in china...I think they still have the death penalty for pornographers
c) life in HK is more claustrophobic...apartments are very small, and most people don't have their own bedrooms in which to watch porn in private, or even the space to store mags/VHS/VCD...you might as well get a girlfriend/married/hooker instead
d) organized crime probably more focused on peddling prostitution than peddling porn to a non-existent market
