You upload an image you want identified then the search engine will try to find that image (or slight variations of it) on the web and give you results of pages that contain that image. So you're more likely to identify the image.

Never heard of this till now, google is great and so is A-O.

www.tineye.com is the site I found that does reverse image searches.

Yeah, TinEye is the one I am using. The search index is still small, but it's very useful!
