Re split files

I also run linux ( Ubuntu 9.10 on main machine).

split rar files created under Windoze do not always unrar under linux with ArchiveManager or even 7Zip.

Runnning WinRar under Wine does not always fix this problem, but 7Zip under Wine often will.

I think that the problem is often due to the crappy file hosters ( ie sharingmatrix) that some posters use, where one part of the file may be 1 or 2 bytes incomplete even though a filemanager will indicate that it is correct. If this is the case you get a crc error which 7zip under Wine seems to ignore.

Best hoster at present is Hotfile in my opinion, especially for those who dont have an account. Just use JDownloader and set it up to reboot your modem to get a new IP ( unless of course you have a static IP)

glower,
So far, when I use JDownloader on Linux to fetch split rar archives I always find safely extracted movies next morning. Looks like JDownloader's unrar plug-in works fine. (or just ignores those archive errors)
Personally I don't let JD reboot my modem. It's not clear if my ISP provides me static IP address. Neither the dynamic IP or static IP is guaranteed. :)

I appreciate Wine project's challenge. But I rather pick the real WindowsXP than Wine. I got a hp laptop with dual OS boot as my last resort or compatibility test rig. It's a used business PC which runs boots (preinstalled) WindowsXP and DesktopBSD.
I love multiple-choices situation. Without it, freedom is just a bad joke I guess. B-)

1 FULL MOVIE IN AN MULTI-PARTS .RAR ARCHIVE IS REGULAR.

I'm afraid shouting in capitals may let him close his mind. :)
He is not a man from the studio or an official distribution agent (I bet)
I guess his source is already ridiculous enough to split the wmv file. (wmv is damn bad and split wmv is damn worse)
What he gets is already ridiculous, it is possible.
To be open, I have tried combining other (not his) split wmv files into a large long movie file using cat command, Avidemux or Kino but after all I gave it up. Takes too long time and all in all it's just a porn what I get. It will take me to nowhere.
Why then doesn't he upload the each wmv file he got as is, without archiving? My guess: all in all, he is uploading porn which he obtained somewhere we don't know. raw wmv files will be quite easy for those file hosters to identify and locate. They'll have no hesitation to delete porn files in 24 hours. (Last week I've uploaded a small plain text file including script of a TV show. 10 hours later I found it was deleted from Megaupload's storage)
If you know any good file hoster which accept single 1GB large porn for a good long period, we should tell him the name and its url.

However, madmudman, just in case, IF you split the movie into more than 10 parts for yourself before archiving, you're wasting your own time.
No need to split the movies just for uploading because you are going to split the archive file later before you upload.

And I guess so far nobody has complained to your rar archive links. Rar has its origin in Windoze too.
I suppose you can forget zip format in this forum. Save your time please. Everybody (Widoze users, Macintosh users Linux users and BSD users) has no problem in good old rar archives, I believe.
I can guarantee it just except for Windoze, since I am a proof, using Mac, Linux and FreeBSD.

For Linux users, this video will help your split rar archives extraction.

Have a good day and have nice uploading and downloading pals.:dozingoff:

Good post.

Im a linux user also, but I DO often have problems with rar files if they are created using Winrar - maybe its caused by the archiver not fully understanding file systems or such.

Even using WinRar under Wine does not always work.

People should learn a bit more about what they are doing and ONLY use cross-platform programs.

Darn, that's too bad!
Did you use GNOME's "File Roller"?
Or I bet you also tried command line "unrar" like the video tutorial I linked...
Your third option would be using HJsplit to join the split .rar files before you extract the archive.
As far as I see, split rar goes well when I download them with JDownloader on Linux. Its unrar plug-in works perfect. Extracting is done 100% automatically without hitch and only what I have to do is to send the link texts to my clipboard and to click the start downloading button on JDownloader. Some hours later I always find the extracted wmv files in my hard drive.

Even using WinRar under Wine does not always work.

I don't recommend using Wine when you are going to make file manipulation. Don't keep a shirk in your bath tub. Windoze on Virtual machine would be far safer. Personally I use real WidozeXP on dual boot old laptop.

People should learn a bit more about what they are doing and ONLY use cross-platform programs.

That Windoze industry, half of them, does not recognize the concept of platform. We cannot control them. So don't even try it. :)
To mimic the bad thing is not a good solution in my opinion. You may invent broken square wheels.
Get the real thing from The Pirate Bay and install it into your machine or VM.
Funny thing is, that rar has its origin in Windoze(or good old DOS). It's one of de-facto standards. I wonder what is happening in Winrar.:sigh:

madmudman, I really hope you have not been splitting wmv files into around 10 parts.
If you can ask your source to stop splitting movies, we would be very happy ever.

Or if you find another source who does not split wmv, that would be more than perfect.
In the past I downloaded, via torrent, other videos from Miracle and they are not split wmvs. So, I believe the studio ships videos in a large wmv file.

By the way if you kindly start using 7-zip for Windows as an alternative archiving tool, you will be a legend. :)

splitting/archiving files

haryumotust

thanks for the reply and info.

I havent had jdownloader set to auto unrar files, having been doing it manually when all downloads are completed. I'll try letting jdownloader do it.

Am not familiar with Gnome's "Fileroller" will check it out.

Have exchanged PM with mudaman stating my reasons for my earlier comments platform independent archiving/splitting methods.

Also wish that people would stop creating .wmv files, another propritory format.

Also think that a good tutorial is needed for these Forums re Archiving/splitting files using cross platform FREE software.

I dont believe that all the Windows users have legal versions of Winrar etc, so why not introduce them to free cross-platform alternatives, thus making this Community a happier place and avoiding the repetitive questions from newbies regarding "How do I ...."

Just my thoughts

thanks again

Yes, JDownloader's unrar plug-in is so great. JD's chat client is also a great tool for getting community support.

File Roller is just a default archive manager of GNOME environment. It is not that advanced tool I suppose. Just giving us a graphic interface. But I bet it can handle properly file-named split rar files. However, take it easy. Sometimes GNOME picks its default applications in ridiculous decision recently. (e.g., its current default PIM Evolution and default bittorrent client Transmission)

And yes, I guess all Windoze users should pick 7-zip now. (I use Windoze everyday in the workplace.) 7-zip can make zip archives, can extract almost anything and quite lightweight. The best thing is, it is open and free. Mac and Linux can extract .7z archives easily.
I'm not going to recommend that Windoze/Mac users get familiar to tar & gzip. LOL.
(Because I learned computers on MS-DOS)

Hope h.264 (mp4) will eliminate that wmv format from the market.....but who knows the future. I use SMB protocol everyday with thanks.
I love multiple choices than Linux. (Also I love crappy open-source application than closed-source well known popular application.)
hahaha.

nodatalog,

well, actually, to tell you the truth, I know that feeling. :)
I just did try to be extremely-too-nice in a web forum. Sometimes I try it.

And if I were madmudman, I would not pay to neo-miracle or japanese-girl-roped. I can be greedy sometimes. I will try hard to find a free source provider. (There exist many private porn torrent trackers with free-of-charge membership. Bunch of porns are available for cash-free. Actually I got 2 memberships.) I don't care the intelligence of the source. And then I may get affiliate program benefit without monetary investment. w00t! :)

Thus, I'm kinda in double-bind. Know both feelings.
Take it easy.

nodatalog: To make over $1000 USD with megaporn he would need 500,000 downloads in a month which is not happening with this thread. With hotfile you would need over 100,000 downloads of a file that is 50mb-100mb with a gold membership to make $1000 which is also very unlikely with just this thread that has only 26,000 views in 2 months.

Anyways, the point I want to make is do not flame uploader or anyone else for that matter (like calling him an arrogant prick even if he is one). Like the saying goes, "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all."
