Are "watch threads" the ancient "subscribed threads" ?

Yes. And "Watched Forums" like the subscribed forums from vBulletin. But the "Alerts" are new. They are something in between, show also if someone e.g. likes your post. And "PM" is now called "conversation".

and the like button is the new thank you button, located next to the post number, on the bottom right
