Yes, the links will be "hidden", but that's probably not a way to stop them from abusing. (and it's more of a hassle for the users)
what i think:
when we do s.th. like this, we have to use some automatic-inline-xenfor-bb-code-editing. And for this, i have to programm my own plugins, since i haven't found one, that will replace the links with s.th. the server will produce. (using javascript won't work, since the crawlers won't use javascript)
and out of knowledge ... programming a plugin for xenforo isn't that easy (my last try failed miserably) to change the URLs, if there is a link to the hoster.
so changing the URL-BB-Code ... but this can go really wrong, since the URL-Tag is used quite often

I dont think you quite understood me.

Anyways, by placing the links in safelink, the links wont be indexed. Thus, the links will stay 100% alive until its met its expiration date on the host (or longer if the links keep getting clicks).

This will gurantee that the links stays alive for at least 1 month.

A lot of users links die within a week.

This is definitely worth the hassle for anyone posting links.

The only time I have never seen this not work is with some of the material in the jr idol section.

But that is due to someone actually going into every link and reporting it.

Or the whole cache of it, when its reported once, if its upped again the system just automatically takes it off.

Anyways, would it hurt to see how this goes?

Though, there would be some problems, sometimes people just copy links from other blogs that are indexed. Or maybe its the blogs copying the links posted on here?

Would it hurt

to

try? :ehem:

well ...
i do have understood you.
i see your problem and i have the same.
i'm normally using a link-crypter like ncrypt - but i only do this, in order to not loosing sights of my links, since everything else is useless.

i don't think forcing the uploaders to use this, will be a good idea.
but if they want to use it - it wouldn't be that bad.

i'm not going to give you an answer, that will affect all uploaders here on akiba - that has to be a chompy-or a whole-staff decision.

Please use the original safelink https://safelinking.net/ (which supports ssl and not the subdomain)
If there are too much people using them, they will setup an automatism for this and you haven't gained anything, since the safe-link-url will then be indexed.
it's the same with new filesharing-hosts. It will take some time, but then will be changed. They even have a special DMCA-Site for such reports. And i would bet, even the API can handle DMCA-Requests.
And since they have a DLC or Click'n'load option, the abusers will get the links automatically without any problems - extracting the real-URLs isn't that much of a problem. As for me, i would say: a program to abuse this files can be hacked in less than 1 hour, if you have DLC-Decrypt or Click'n'Load decrypt and the API for the file-hosts.
To prevent this, you have to add Captchas - which is a real hassle and you probably will loose some downloads. And then, there is still the API left. And the i-will-abuse-everything-companies will get a special api (like for uploaded) where they can skip such nonsence and get the links directly.
where there's a will there's a way

@would it hurt:
as leecher: yes, obivously. since i know have to click multiple times and/or have to solve another captcha (and i don't know how many ads there are on this page)
as upload: not really. but i won't gain anything from this site. (Not even the protection, after a few times). I have to take time to put my links there, have to set it up etc ...
as s.o. who tries to make money by uploading: i don't give a shit about this, i make my money within the first 48 hours of posting this on multiple sites on the net. After that, the files can be abused, not much loss then.

and as i see this here, unfortionately the last group is mainly represented here ...
the original-uploads will probably do this (since the 7 day rule will also protect them from repostings), but as i said, this must be a team-decision

Code:
what about simply putting the links between [code, as in this reply , would they still be indexed ?

Another trick to avoid indexation is to post a screenshot of the links instead of the direct links, this can not be indexed by any means, even the most powerful ;) (but the big problem is about ownership, how to be sure that files posted in Akiba are really from those who uploaded them ? Anyone can take links from a board and post them here, and vice-versa. Although there is another trick to avoid that problem : adding the name of the uploader and the name of the forum to files' links/names, as in http://rapidgator.net/file/fde635b572/Hot.JAV-318.from.Shogun.at.Akiba.forum.rar.html

Pros : it assures authoship and should prevent reposts. Cons : if the files are uploaded as free users and only posted here, they may die "quickly" (owing to a lack of downloads), while with the old/current method, files are surely reposted in other boards, but the more
they are downloaded the longer they stay available.

Another trick again is to post the links in one of those Pastebin, some offer SSL and private mode (not indexed by search engines).

As for the files that you think are most likely to be reported then deleted, using https://safelinking.net/ would not help. The most effective reply is to use hosts where files can not be "reported", or even if they have a files policy, they are known to ignore complaints. This is just one among many other candidates : https://anonfiles.com/ (no captcha, no javascript, no other bullshit scripts). Only use it for your "borderline" files, not for ordinary porn, for the latter it's still better to post them using a premium account, so that files will be available for a very long time, with still some good hosts like http://rapidgator.net, http://uptobox.com/, http://uploadhero.co/, http://www.1fichier.com/, http://www.zippyshare.com (fast download) (100% Free, No Download Limits, Up to 200MB per File, Unlimited Disk Space, No Sign Up Required).

Must be 100 % avoided : http://keep2share.cc/

code-tag doesn't have any influence on the crawlers.
it must be s.th. like a hide-tag, but this will also stop the not-registered users.

changing the DL-URLs won't be that good either, since then you have to manually edit the Links before it works - or it doesn't have any effect, like .e.g uploaded.

all of the hosts you mentioned are acting according to DMCA-requests.
(look out for "abuse" or Copyright policy.
at least they have an email-address where you can setup dmcas - and i bet (and know at least from rapidgator), that they respect DMCA and will delete the files

No shinigamie, solutions exist (even radical ones, not mentioned), but the easiest would be the use of hosts that do not care about DMCA, such hosts exist like https://anonfiles.com/ (try to get something deleted there, good luck lol ), but of course don't expect that with major companies like rapidgator, etc. But there are plenty of Japanese, Korean or Russian potential hosts. But is the current situation really bad that it needs such changes ? (Don't know, I just ask, have not assess it).

Well, I am out-of-my-depth here but I have never let that stop me before.....

First of all, if it is bot-crawlers you are concerned about can't you just use a simple anti-bot script like some forums use aginst google and the like? (of course you are probably talking about a different kind of bot or ones that ignore such stuff).

Secondly, what about turning off external hotlinking? Is that undo-able in a forum such as this? (isn't it just a bbcode option?) I mean if that is what a bot is reading then give it nothing to read. Surely a bot is not sophisticated enough to pick up a link from mere text while it is no big deal for a user to copy-and-paste.

Lastly, if I am completely misunderstanding this, then please ignore this post.

right.
i have to activly bann the IPs of the bot - but i can't do this, since i don't know them, and they are changing.
and if you start blocking out the bots, they will use bots that can login via a xenforo user (where they even can click on like) (had this on WoH)

the bots indexing the whole site.
it doesn't matter if it has an a-html-tag or not.
they just try to macht for hosters (that's why it take a few days, until they realize that there is a new host - same with subyshare here on akiba)

Filesharing forums are riddled with links to dead safelink sites. If you add that option, you should be very careful which site you're using.

I saw what you wrote in IRC, yes the older forums are the more dead posts there are, we do remove a lot of dead ones

and yes you can add to the bukkake thread

Actually, my point here is that the safelink site gives an additional point of failure: the actual files might still be online, but the safelink site might not. You can't save your links if the safelink site goes out of business, as various already have.

Would this be such a huge issue?
How many % of hits/site useage come from non-registered users?

Ah, that'd definitely be an issue then, didn't think or suspect it was quite that much.
