anyone here who like oldies JAV (from the 90's - early 2000's) too ?

from that era most JAV used thick mosaik, lesser sex actions compare to today's JAV, and the total duration around 45-60 minutes, they used VHS and VCD, digital contents & download was not common yet

I have some favorites stars from that era, how about you ?

Although one of the few things I do know about the old JAVs is that they averaged about an hour, I don't know much about works before 2007, having only discovered JAV a few years later... and I wonder if many members aren't in the same boat, Supmop. (One reason why I fear there may not be too many contributors for this thread.)

I recognized a cover from this page that I had run into before (I'm a sucker for teachers with glasses):

Female Teacher's Bound Meat Slave [JB-002], starring Yuki Emoto

The download link was working (as much as the filehoster was the dreaded Rapidgator), so I picked it up. I get the impression these older JAVs were treated more like "real movies" (not unlike 1970s American porn), and there was more... seriousness? ... to them. Anyway, as you put it, there was "lesser sex action," and given my basic instincts, I felt disappointed.

The page I linked above is from a thread called, "JAV Vintage Collection"; I didn't explore past that (eleventh) page, but the one thing that struck me was how... different... the ladies looked, on that page. Maybe the thicker eyebrows? Over half the ladies sported them, but it's more than that. Something more... plain?... about these women? The photos of the ladies you put up look a lot more like what we are accustomed to, so I can't be sure whether my observation was coincidental.

yes seems other members here aren't in the same boat

yup oldies JAV are more serious and lesser sex action + thick mosaik, I understand not many people like it, my first experience to know JAV was in Akira Fubuki's era so its a nostalgic for me, searching oldies JAV today is not easy, but its challenging

I think because different style between 90's vs today's fashion ?

Kimiko Matsuzaka 1989

I much prefer the hairstyles of the 80s and early 90s to the ubiquitous hair-straightened styles of the 2000s. It may just be nostalgia on my part, but the hairstyles of today lack character. Those teased big-hair manes made women stand out.

Hitomi Kobayashi
kobayashi-hitomi-8.jpg

By today's standards Kimiko Matsuzaka and Hitomi Kobayashi might be considered uninspiring, but back in their day they were two of the most important
AV actresses and would later go on to create the boom in big breasts videos that you enjoy today. Surely there would have been another massive breasted girl that would have started the ball rolling eventually, but Kimiko was the first and best. Anyway, you can read the wiki about them if you care.

There are a few other really important early JAV gals, but there is little point in knowing their history since before 2005 you won't be able to find anything good to stroke off to, right?

Ai Iijima
ai-iijima-0022.jpg

Ai was instantly recognizable, unlike so many cookie-cutter girls these days. You all may not think so, but these 3 ladies were the most popular and influential and set the stage for what would become the JAV industry as we know it. Unfortunately, to my taste, Ai's fake breasts were a turn-off. However, she was sexy enough that I could make an exception in my disdain of plastic surgery.

edit: http://legendav.blog.fc2.com/

Just in case anyone wants to see a visual list of some of the most popular AV gals of the 80s and 90s, look in the center column of this blog. There will be pictures of nearly all the really well-known gals. Aida Momo, Rui Sakuragi, Yuki Miho, Mirei Asaoka! Omg, I forgot all about those beauties!!

Mirei Asaoka

Now THAT is what I'm talking about! She had a nice natural body too. No bullshit nose-job, no plucked eyebrows, no fake tits. She had a nice bottom too. Fuller than most JAV gals of her day. Anyway, enjoy.

My very first exposure was Nao Oikawa from a movie I got through limewire simply titled "Nurse Nao". I took it to school and we all watched it like it was the moon landing.

The super thick mosaic was very frustrating at that period, but I recall seeing some site doing a promotion of the re-release of some titles where the mosaic is lessened to today's level. They need to keep doing that.

yes they need to keep doing that, the re release version has more better picture quality + lesser mosaik are really worth it to collect ;)

Nay...we had a "reputation" to hold up so we could score with the good girls.

It seems the difference is down to their ability to make the mosaic more concise so that motion is clearer, and willingness to show pubic hair. Someone should mark down the date where the Pubic Hair War was won.

I came across this article detailing a "de-pixelating machine" while googling censorship laws in JAV. It obviously doesn't really work, more like a touch up than removal. It looks like a 50s B-movie prop apparently. If there was one for real I'd imagine it looks like this:

It's not worth re-releasing the movies with thin mosaic unless it's guaranteed to be a big seller. If they're pushing smaller mosaic, you're then talking about having someone go the extra mile which can run $500USD+ for a 2 hour title. Can the title recoup that? Are there enough fans of said actress that still care? Gloomy, but those are the facts.

with thin mosaik, we can see the penetration, I think its the most important in hardcore porn, with thick mosaik the're accusations that the performers only act dry hump, like in softcore

yes its nice to see female pubic hair ;)

I don't believe "de-pixelating machine", "special glass", ecc to see uncenssored AV, we need to get the real uncenssored movies without mosaik at all

they don't have the master film ? I tought AV companies keep their master as raw material that not censsored, so its easy to re release the uncenssored or thinner mosaik version later

so far the re release version that I've seen still from famous actresses and big hits movies from the past only, so its answered guaranteed to be a big seller factor

by the way do you know when JAV industry started ? early 80's ?

[QUOTE="by the way do you know when JAV industry started ? early 80's ?[/QUOTE]

It was supposed to begin in the mid 60's , then became more mainstream in Japan in the early 70's with the Studio Nikkatsu doing the "Roman-Porno" (romantic pornography) films, this is according to the book "Japanese Cinema Encyclopedia: The Sex Films"

Hi Supmop, the Roman-Porno films are from what i have seen, softcore movies or "pink films" but i have to say some of those movies are very enjoyable because there is no mosaic as it not shows genitals, which its better sometimes instead of having a big mosaic and dont see nothing.

I'm sure Mr. Mago's source is authoritative, but I had read that it was "In the Realm of the Senses," which made quite a splash in the 1970s USA, that got the JAV ball rolling... or probably, really rolling.

"I thought AV companies keep their master as raw material that not censsored, so its easy to re release the uncenssored or thinner mosaik version later"

If they keep their raw final-cut masters (and they had better), releasing the movie as uncensored would be a snap. But if they're going to fool around with the mosaic, whether thin or thick, that would entail time-consuming "effects" work.

and do you know when Japan started to produce hardcore AV ?

Hi Supmop, do you mean actual sex and covered by the mosaic? According to the book it was in the mid 80's (not sure if it was 1984 or 1985)when Nikkatsu developed the "Roman X" films.
