i think they are amateurs. it japan so anything is possible. if you check out some of the jav company websites they from time to time have application for special events with idols. i would assume that these events would mainly promotion dvd sells for photo ops and autographs. i also remember reading somewhere that some companies actually have male amateurs pay to be in a jav. still i don't know if there is any true to this.
