I'm one to talk. It's not like I haven't had egg on my face plenty of times when I run into something appearing to be obscure; and then the reason for the obscurity boils down to my ignorance.
But this time I bumped my knee against something that caught my interest, and when I went through the usual searching channels (that I'm pretty adept at by now), I came up with total zip!
It was only when I visited the link of the company that was legible on the cover that I could get an idea of what was going on.
The weird thing is, the JAV is pretty bonafide. A good few of the offerings of this company (TRAUMA ART) are the normal running length (and not those hour-long exercises that usually "don't count"), and some feature established actresses.
Here's what got my ball rolling:
Hypnosis Recreation 3 [WHY-16], starring Azumi Mizushima and Haruna Saeki

It's not like this particular movie (or a few of the others from the company) is the typical hardcore matter; they target particular niches. Their categories are the "Hypno," the "Battle," the "Fetish," and the "Horror." So you've got the beating up thing, the asphyxiation thing, and other things that some will not necessarily find erotic.
But I liked the promise of their hypno stuff, because they make a point of the "eyes rolling back" imagery that some corners of JAV revel in (reducing women to cartoon figures; talk about your objectification), and most importantly, I like the "women doing onto women" aspect, turning unsuspecting ones to participate in vile lesbian acts.
Recreational Hypnosis Student Council [WHY-04], with Minami Manami (南愛美)
Naturally not all of their actresses have had that much exposure; for example, there's one called "Sleepwalking and Faint" [WHY-20], starring Ryo Imai (今井涼) and Shizuka Chatan (北谷静香)...
... Who may not be well-known, but some look just gorgeous!
(Oh, wait a min. Just looked deeper, and "Shizuka Chatan" is apparently "Shizuka Kitayashi," who has been around the block.)
The different lines of TRAUMA ART go by different DVD codes, of course, but their hypno line is designated by the WHY code - which may be appropriate, because the question is, WHY are their movies so (apparently) completely unknown?
I can understand when a JAV is hard to find reference for, but at least even the most obscure titles are often listed in a comprehensive resource such as DMM. But when a manufacturer's entire LINE is M.I.A.? That makes me... uncomfortable!
