My advice, friend, is to start slow and low. Don’t spring for the higher-end stuff until you know you will like this. Google your phone and compatible VR headsets. You will get a good number of hits of cheap and/or entry-level ones, sometimes between $5-$20. Then you need to install a VR app.

You can also go to any major retailer (or not so major) where you live and see if you can find cheap ones there. But make sure you read the descriptions that it will work with your specific phone. If it doesn’t list your phone’s exact model, at least check if the size will work. For that situation, I’d look for the cheapest one possible unless you’re pretty certain you can return the item.

Is it worth it? That is very subjective, but, so far I haven’t heard many complaints from people that actually have a headset. Some that don’t even have one like to say otherwise, though.

Good luck!

I'm actually interested in that VR stuff, but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort of buying the stuff and getting into it, can you tell me if the experience is good enough to invest some time and money into it?

I have a mid-tier phone so some of the nice HD ones I can't view without it skipping. But, it still works for most stuff. I just got a super cheap headset on Amazon for $10 and use Moon VR Player (it does the best for me when dealing with various aspect ratios) which is free I think.

Edit: BTW, the higher def videos DO make a difference.

I started exactly like that! I had an aging HTC phone and got a cheap headset from eBay and used Moon Player. Did the job!

Well as you suggest I'm gonna start small, and see if it is good enough to invest more on it, thanks for the feedback, I actually have a Galaxy Note 5, is not top notch smartphone but I guess it can do the trick

Amazon has the original 2015 Gear VR that is compatible with the Note 5 for $19.99 if you're in the US.

Or you can try your luck on eBay

It's good that you have a Note 5 because it is one of the Samsung phones the Gear VR was designed for.

The most basic set is a Google Cardboard. Very cheap as its literally made out of cardboard but works just fine.

Only problem is there's no head strap so you won't have a free hand for...uh...y'know...but its a good way to try these vids out to see if you like them. No point spending more only to find out it gives you a splitting headache like with some folks.

As for the app, I would recommend VaR's VR Player Pro.
