Waiting Period WTF

I just wanted to know:

Why did I have to wait 7 days after signing up before I could finally start posting? I honestly think that a waiting period is stupid and pointless and it could lure new joiners away. I would like for this restriction to be removed, or at least reduced.

why would they remove the one thing that prevents bot spammers from pilfering the forum ? as for reducing it, i really don't see the point of that because if you really wanted to be more helpful here, a 7 day wait period won't be that long enough and 95% of the newbies that join here end up being lurkers.
