Mosaic censorship (on a technical level).

Hi guys,

I've been thinking quite a lot about our "beloved" (sarcasm) mosaic censorship, but on a technical level.

Basically, how is it done (in our current days and age, not in the past)?

Do they use free/paid plugins for their favorite video editing software (Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Premiere, Media Composer etc.), or do they use a dedicated software?
Is there any pre-requisite standard / legal requirement (type of mosaic, strength of effect etc.)?

It's really out of curiosity.
Thanks!

The answer to the last bit is no, as far as I can tell. Various studios clearly have different pixel sizes and even area sizes. Some just pixelate a cicle area, others try to cover only the naughty parts.

The minimum required pixel size seems to vary oiver time too. Some years ago, the pixels kept getting smaller, sometimes hiding very little and nothing was doine about it. Then Japan won the bid for the Olympics and the powers that be decided to clean things up. Suddenly the pixels got really big, presumably to avoid trouble with the law.

This is something I'm curious about too. It seems like it's 99% self-policed. Because if you look at the mainstream content that gets published on DMM, yeah the mosaics are thick as hell, but if you look at amateur sites like Fantia the mosaics are barely there. Also it seems like they're really only concerned about the pink labia, because in chaku ero vids like Spice Visual they show the girl's slit all the time. In Digi-Plan chaku ero they go even crazier and they'll paint the girl's labia blue or green and show it that way, or film it through a piece of warped glass. I don't know if maybe the government's rules are very light and it's just DMM that puts heavy restrictions or maybe the other sites like Digi-Plan and Fantia fly under the radar because they're much smaller than DMM. And then of course you have hentai manga where the "censor" is just a small black line across the clitoris.

I thought, could there be something related to video resolution too? 2160p (4K) having 4 times more pixels than 1080p, I would assume that the mosaic on a 2160p footage downscaled to 1080p probably looks different than anything 1080p native.

What government agency regulates porn? I'm tempted to have a look at their website and see if I can find some info there.
