You have nothing to be sorry about. Anyway...reputation system is kinda dull after a while, and if a forum gets going with a reputation system, it's hard to take it away. it becomes part of it. I'd prefer to avoid it at this early stage.

rep system serves no purpose other than a feedback mechanism. If reputation were reinstated, it would be on a strictly comments-only basis. (i.e. all "points" nulled) but if people want to say thanks, they can just bump the thread or pm their thanks. reputation is too easily abused to fuel...
