Woke up, got hit by another quake about 30 minutes ago. Shook our building, I'd have to say it was the strongest aftershock/new quake since the first one. This one was centered two cities away... screw me...

I think the food is not going to be to bad from what I heard
but the iodine tablets is going to be hard, from what I have heard they have not issued any yet, that is of my local broadcaster,

The measured levels of radiation from all sources speak of 1015 (max) to 70 microsieverts per hour (µSv/h), not millisieverts (mSv).

Sorry, you're right. TEPCO did indeed say microsieverts, but the news channels are being inconsistent in their reports. Seems like they can't find the μ symbol. Doesn't help that half the physics professors are talking about it in millisieverts.

For those who think a nuclear meltdown will blow away the better part of Japan, please note that the Fukushima nuclear plant does NOT have a combustible graphite core like Chernobyl. A total meltdown should flow into underground containment.

This is so horrible.I'd just know of the nuclear reactor.The only thing that we could do is to pray for the safe of those people and those stupid earthquakes to stop.

Just got word that OPERATION YASHIMA SAKUSEN is underway just like in the anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion". Many people love the anime, so they are using this phrase. In the cartoon, the entire country of Japan loses power to enable a particle cannon/sniper rifle and other various electricity-sapping things (giant robots/angels). In our case, the power outage is to enable businesses to come back online. Who knew that an anime would help the local economy so much?

Onagawa nuclear power plant in Miyagi prefecture is now reporting abnormally high radiation levels (21 μSv). All three reactors have been shut down. Investigation and details forthcoming.

I am not sure about your choice of rods and lures but hopefully it doesn't matter. I do get the impression you don't fish much, (of course if you did you would already have a rod and tackle). If the store isn't far then next time you go out buy a spoon fishing lure and make sure you have a filet knife.

Spoon lures don't need to be baited, (shouldn't be baited). You just cast and reel in the line, a fish thinks the lure is a bait fish and and whamo you have your fish. (okay maybe it isn't that easy but you gor the idea).

I caught a kingfish on something like this:

but if you are casting by that bridge, (if that is allowed), I would use something smaller like this:

Silver or chrome is best but gold is okay.

Of course I hope it doesn't come to that but fishing is a nice way to spend some time regardless. I am glad you and your missus are still fine and my hopes are that continues to remain the case.

I fish a lot, but don't have 30,000 yen to put into a rod. The price went from 1,900 yen for the rod I bought to 31,000 yen as all the 'middle of the road' rods were sold out.

I didn't know your originally from next door to me in Saskabush. I'm in Alta in Cowtown. Gotta an ex wife from over that way. Not that that matters any more.:cheer:

Be careful of fishing around the bay; helicopters have reported oil leaks (in the water) coming from the Cosmos oil refinery explosion and other sources.

No kidding. Most places couldn't wait to get the gouge in when people are desperate.

Its actually heartwarming to see something like this in the midst of disaster.

I saw an article elsewhere about how there was pretty much zero concern as far as looting in the affected areas, as well. Japan sure has an interesting culture.

Another akiba member residing in Japan checking in. Things up here in Sapporo are a lot less hectic than things down on the main island. I hope that all of us living here in Japan keep safe and in good health. My wife much like aquamaine's hasn't been feeling well at all these past few days. However having finally reached all of her friends and family she's able to cope a little better. I thank all of you that have expressed support for Japan and those effected by the disaster. Even though I haven't been directly effected by the devastation, I and the others living here will feel the cold hard reality of the aftereffects. Let's all hope that Japan can make a quick recovery.
