First i what to apologize if it was discused elsewhere but I'm kinda new .
On to the subject, what you guys think about censorship in H-anime? I mean cmon lets face it Japan is a Monster when it comes to porn(they have every know fetish in the known Universe) but by some freak occurance they have very strict and fierce laws that prohibit uncensored adult material, kinda ironic.Still its pretty ilogical you have detailed depiction of blood, dismembered bodies, weapons etc but God forbiddes we show a genitalia or 2 because that will screw you up for good(and if kids really wana see then goggle ftw ).I read somewhere that this law is not very enforced and its more of a custom, not 100% sure about this just something i heard.
I'm looking forword to what everyone has to say and lets share opinions and ideas about the necesity of the law and who knows step by step our small voices become one huge one that will make a change.
Im hopeing Japan will adopt western custom and simply rate it adult material with no need of censorship and if anyone can see the need in it do share your thoughts.

Interresting topic, I'd also like to know about the laws in japan. All the stuff is already adult rated, so why is it still censored? Japan is a modern country, they have no problem with violence (japanese Kill Bill version is more violent then the original), what's the problem with sex. Even if there are laws, isnt it about time to abandon them? A modern society should be able to handle sex without censorship.

Ridiculously enough, it's completely opposite in Germany. While they sometimes show tits at 1:30pm in tv and porns are uncensored, violence is censored. Some violent scenes in movies are cut out (even in King Kong several scenes were missing compared to the DVD). They especially like to censor games, for example Half-Life 1 : blood was yellow and solidiers were robots; C&C Red Alert: solidiers overran by tank made sounds like when you step on a cola-can and were leaking oil instead of blood which was somehow funny.
Well it got a bit better, some 18+ rated games are even uncut but publishers try to get a lower rating and therefor censoring the games . While HL2 Ep 1 was uncut, Valve censored the Orange Box...blood in Ep 2 was yellow I think and black in Portal.

The Japanese don't always leave violent images uncensored. After the killings which occurred around the time of School Days' airing, all anime studios were required to recolor human blood from red to black. This was because of copycat killings which had been going on for some time, first involving Death Note and then School Days only days before the final episode was to air. I never watched School Days but I did watch Myself ; Yourself and you can see this censorship in one of the final episodes: someone is cut with a knife and the blood looks like grayish-black tar instead.

i know a similar thing about a killing when a girl wacked her dad and during that time Higurashi no Naka Koro ni was airing and authorities made a conection between them.Anyway lets get on the topic, did a little exposure of genitalia ever hurt someone?did they make you go berserk and eat your family? NO they only gave you a goofy smile and a boner even if your an adult or a kid who managed to get himself a copy.Ok there might be some h-animes that show a little gore and violance but its adult rated and nobody forces you to watch them(anyway with the movies going on today kids are used to the violance especealy some japanese movies ?Ichi the killer? not to talk that always the japanese version is a lot darker ?Shutter?)
but still with all the gore/violance if you were to simplify to the roots a h-anime what you get? a cartoon ffs

PS:watch Higurashi and you'll know what i talk about...little cute girls with some of the most hardcore and gruesome acts of murder

But feel free to skip the scene with Mion & Satoko, not to mention the nails...
*shrugs*

I found a site which explained some of the background behind Japan's censorship (which I find quite acceptable really, especially considering the closing sentence in the article)
Read it at Japan Probe.

This sort of censorship mentality exists in the western world as well. A film containing voilence (perhaps not gratious) without any love-making scenes have usually lower age-rating than a similar, or no voilence, movie containing love-making scenes. Granted, once you reach the over-18 bracket, there is no longer any censorship in the films themselves except any cuts made to make it pass the reviewing boards for the different countries.

I guess it all varies - in the western world often a film is either allowed (as is) or it is banned by the review board. In Japan, they decided to ban explicit showing of genitalia, but kinda allows any films otherwise.

So genitalia was deemed “injurious to public morals” ? But all other movies a.k.a
Little Killer's Guide in Modern Day Society were not? :petrfied:

Apparently. But don't ask me to explain why many countries think reproducing is less desirable than killing >_<

And despite the censorship, my impression is that Japan is less stuck-up than many other countries regarding sex, but then I probably have a skewed image of the country.

To show genitals is considered "obscene" by the japanese law, period:

http://anonym.to/?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pornography_in_Japan

I remember the japanese police investigated last year about the NEVA (the main japanese organization who takes care about censorship of adult video releases) because they thought NEVA did not applied proper masking of the "obscene" material.

As a paradox, all other "hardcore" themes are tolerated, as soon as genitals have mosaics.

And most of the weird fetishes developed by japanese people is due to this censorship.

Its not the actual censorship that bothers me,cause from what i heard this makes the producers a little more creative, but the fact that there are some great titles out there that will either be licensed in ages or never,so for all i care they can keep the censorship as long as titles get licensed lets say 90% of them all. When you watch a great hentai and you know you'r in for a good time nothing ruins that mood better then those oversized pixels.

Long story short:either drop censorship or license faster,we cant have them both(no1 is that lucky),one would just do the trick but the reality slaps us on the face with none :abandoned:
