Anyone ever busted for downloading JAV?

I am wondering if anyone on this forum has ever gotten a notice in the mail or even been actually sued for downloading JAV? (Or read a credible news article?) I'm looking at the Heyzo videos (torrents) and I noticed that they are incorporated in the US, which makes me think that US downloaders might be vulnerable to lawsuits. Obviously, mainstream blockbusters movies are very dangerous to download via torrents, and now some US porn companies are suing people as well ... but has anyone heard of anyone getting into trouble downloading JAV movies?

Obviously, direct download through RG or UL is much safer, but the Heyzo videos don't seem to be common on Akiba Online via direct download. Most of what I see are torrents.

Anyone ever experience any trouble after downloading JAV via torrent?

Torrents, p2p like eMule, etc. are easy to monitor. People would not get troubles specifically because of JAV but any copyrighted material and provided someone or a company has decided to complain, etc. ;) Right, DDL offers a better protection.

Thanks, Shogun. Yes, I know JAV torrents can easily be monitored. I am just wondering if it ever actually happens. For example, if you torrent-download a new blockbuster movie with 500 seeders, it is FAR more likely that you'll run into trouble than if you download an unpopular movie from the 70's with 8 seeders.

I'm just wondering if JAV has a reputation of being "dangerous" to torrent ... or if the JAV companies have better things to do with their time and really don't go after torrent downloaders.

I always choose direct download when possible, but sometimes that just isn't an option. A torrent is sometimes the only active file available.

So has anyone ever actually heard of an instance where a JAV company mailed out legal letters to torrent users? Or does that industry not pay much attention to torrent users?

In the world of internet nothing is easy, because you may live in a country that does not care about copyright, surf a board hosted in a country hostile to yours and downloading files that are hosted in another country where yours has no jurisdiction at all, etc.

Now, if you live in the US and acquire the last Time Warner Bro. movie through torrents, your chance to get troubles is higher. Those who have a debauchery of means for this kind of hunting are the US majors, more recently France adopted this sport too. The porn industry, including JAV, does not have that reputation of copyright fighters, sometimes, in some boards, agreements are made (after a direct contact with board's Adm.) not to share this or that specific series, but that's all.

Here is the theory
http://www.japantoday.com/category/...ng-of-music-videos-punishable-with-jail-terms

but that's theory only. If the copyright laws were fully applied, a site like Youtube has to be closed tomorrow because 99 % of the videos are illegally put on line. So many sites, boards, etc. do not care or even make huge profits from copyright infringements.

Unless otherwise proven, the answer to your question is no ;)

The situation is different in China, with repeated crackdowns on porn (producers, etc.).

Can you elaborate on the Chinese case? I am super curious because it seems to me China usually does not care about copyrights.

As much as you want to acknowledge it, nothing is safe anymore including your personal information. If the government wants, they could pull out a file and everything about you will be known. The internet it worst, once you get online, they can track you to your exact spot. As long as you have an IP addressed assigned to you, they can find you and they will get you, if they want.

I have a friend over in Singapore who got a lawsuit for downloading copyright materials (ie. movies, songs etc).

Simplest rule :
Where was the media originally made? Were are you located? If they match, I would be more careful. ;)

This means in the US, "Hollywood" movies can get you in trouble with the companies.

In Japan, JAV can get you in trouble with the companies as their copyright holders are in the same countries and makes it easier for them to get you.

Wow. Try visiting Torrentfreak.com every once in awhile. Have you never heard of ThePirateBay?

Exactly. Include MegaUpload and Hotfire into that as well. Both (as well as many others) were hunted down across international borders for copyright infringement.

Now I am not saying that you have anything to worry about downloading JAV here but an ounce of prevention is worth a pund of cure (and all that). There are reasons people use VPNs these days (just be careful on which ones you use, torrentfreak has a few good articles on that). Also it is more about content than than where you are living. There ia a reason Akiba-Online has a "Do Not Upload" list and that western porn is forbidden here (although there is more than one reason for that). It costs money to pursue copyright infringement and while most porn pruducers don't want to spend the money, some do.

Also ThePirateBay is still a good place to find JAV (if you can sift through all the other porn) and it isn't that unusual for them to get the content before we do. Akiba-Online is just more accessable than TPB and porn often has a poor seed life. Of course this is irrelevant but I thought it worth mentioning.

My brother downloaded only like one American porn movie from TPB which got me warning email from my ISP. On the otherhand, I've been downloading Japanese porn for over a decade, I have yet to receive a single notice so I'd say you're fine. Just be cautious when torrenting American stuff.

Yep, that is a tough place to hang your hat. For those interested:

You might want to download CCleaner and wipe your info often, if you are caught with it just remember that CCleaner is used to improve your computers performance and stick with that story if you can. Getting caught with Tor or Tails or encryption software could be dangerous to your health. If you are part of some rebel movement then use it because your life is at risk anyway if not then don't, it just looks like you are hiding something that would be bad news for you.

I wouldn't trade places with you for a million dollars (well, maybe if it was deposited in a Swiss bank or something). Best of luck to you and may God watch over you.
