The Crown Court handed down a nine-month suspended sentence to Robul Hoque, who police found to have 400 images of sexualized Japanese schoolgirl cartoon characters on his computer.

The Crown Court of England and Wales set a precedent a few days ago when it sentenced 39-year-old Robul Hoque to nine months imprisonment for possession of lolicon images, albeit suspended so long as he doesn’t break the law again.

"Lolicon manga,” which literally means “comics for those with lolita complexes", are animations and comic books that involve drawings of children or child-like creatures in adult situations and relationships.
Usually they are drawn by Japanese artists and published in Japan, where it is perfectly legal to do so.

The manga comic book images in question were of young girls dressed in Japanese school uniforms engaging in sexual acts. Police seized Hoque’s computer back in 2012 and found nearly 400 such images. Even though none were of real people, apparently the judges deemed it close enough.

In 2009 an American comic book collector named Christopher Handley pled guilty to violating a similar law that outlaws any art that depicts minors engaging in sex acts and lacks a serious literary, artistic or scientific value.

However, the flaw with this sort of law is just like beauty itself, it’s all in the eyes of the beholder and can be open to whatever interpretation of the law that will vary with the presiding judge or jury.

What the hell is this crap.

I feel ya bro. Next thing you know they are going to put cameras in toilet stalls in schools so they can arrest the kids that write dirty limmericks and draw dirty pictures while they are taking a dump. Of course these kids will be charged with sex crimes......

Actually it is hard to fault the Crown Court (not one but multiple judges) here as their job is to merely interpet the law. The fact that the sentence was suspended really does say a lot about how they actually felt on the subject. The people to blame are those making the censorship laws in the first place and that would go for America as well.

I read about this case and yup its as daft and made up as it sounds like we all know.

The judge clearly has illegal thought crimes brewing in his/her mind and probably had no idea how to be judge. He merely said if I myself had pictures of schoolgirl cartoons I too would do XYZ to them so he must have also hence he hands down a sentence to transfer his own morality and thought crimes which he just committed and offloads all his own sexual deviant frustration onto a normal guy who has never broken the law and by all accounts a far superior human being then the judge.

Am glad it was a suspended sentence but its still a criminal record and in the UK it pretty much blocks 60-70% of jobs and means zero career and a very bad character reference.

I wish he got into security, privacy and researched it before becoming a thought crime victim.

for comics? Unreal

I find it relevant to mention, Isn't it funny how they handed him an imprisonment sentence, rather then just sending him for counseling.
Makes sense, prisons are mostly privet owned and lucrative revenue sources. Just goes to show you how much it's about money and NOT about the mental well being of people.

But the bull$hit part of it all is: There is no window of proof into the man's motives, as no one can see into another person's mind . .I don't care how much professional training you have.
So what is the legal system's baseline for their moral principals? An image is an external source that has no substance on internal human thought by and of itself.

I agree jail and prison is never a fix or answer its just the governments excuse to control and profit from.

However its the judge and people within the criminal justice system that require the counselling.

What are they going to do arrest the millions of Brits that watched anime ?

Then again the same could be said for them arresting every single guy that visits a adult website which shows girls under 18, which is what they are actually doing since it allows them to give them an endless supply of convictions to them its a normal day in the office to human beings its a life destroyed due to made up thought crimes.
