China’s most powerful military leader, in an unusual public statement, ...ordered military forces to prepare for combat, as Chinese warships deployed to waters near disputed islands and anti-Japan protests throughout the country turned violent.

Gen. Xu Caihou, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, considered the most senior military political commissar, said Friday that military forces should be “prepared for any possible military combat,” state run Xinhua news agency reported.
Xu’s unusual comments followed reports in state-controlled Chinese media that opposed the Japanese government’s purchase of the three islands.
Xu said during a visit to military units near Taiyuan, in the northern province of Shanxi, “efforts should be made to ensure that the military is capable of resolutely performing its duty to safeguard the country’s national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity whenever it is needed by the Party and the people.”

A U.S. official said the PLA’s most senior political general rarely makes such direct appeals to troops to prepare for combat.

Japan’s Coast Guard announced on Sept. 14 that six Chinese maritime patrol vessels sailed into Japanese-controlled waters near the Senkakus and the vessels ignored Japanese warnings for the ships to leave the area.
Other reports from China on Monday showed a convoy of hundreds of Chinese fishing vessels sailing toward the disputed islands.
The six Chinese ships entered Japanese waters near the island on Friday, and ignored Japanese coast guard orders for them to vacate what it said was its territorial waters.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that six of its surveillance ships had entered the waters near the islands.

A classified Chinese government map from 1969 that was obtained by Japan’s government shows Beijing had labeled the islands as “Senkaku,” their Japanese name, and thus confirmed their control by Tokyo. The map, which was viewed by the Free Beacon, also had a dividing line south of the islands showing that they fall within Japanese territory.

Kind of weird being alive during what could be the spark for the next world war

Only if you are naive enough to believe the hysterics of the media. Are relations at an all-time low? Yes. Are they so low that we will see missiles flying back and forth? Hardly. The Chinese government employs 50,000 people to monitor the Internet. You don't think, in a country of a billion, that they can come up with a few hundred thousand fringe protesters and enough riot police/paramilitary forces to control them? Political dissent is rarely tolerated in China, but dissent that targets one of their old rivals is tolerated. You can bet this does not signal a groundswell in Chinese culture.

What you do have a political transition in China, a government that is about to be voted out of office in Japan and an ongoing race in Taiwan. This is basically all three countries saber-rattling and gnashing teeth to appeal to their fringe right wing supporters at the same time. Poor timing, granted, but hardly grounds to say "World War III."

Good point ,however i do feel as if something is about to snap be it the collapse of the american dollar or something bigger

As said at some other place before, I think these actions have to be related to the corruption & murder affairs around Bo Xilai, a very high ranking politican, which shakened the position of the Chinese communist party once more thouroughly. The conflict for the islands exists for longer, but the outrage was pretty well timed to create a nice little distraction.

If the prophecies become "real" then Russia could team with China and USA with Japan...,and it could be the begining of the end from this era....

BUT we are the people not the puppets from politicians millionaires!,But in other hand we have a lot of puppets soldiers wich we have to fight...I HATE GOVERMENTS AND WARS!!!, AND PUPPETS SOLDIERS TOO!!!

Chinese people are not allowed to protest about their government, but they can protest about other countries as much as they want. The Chinese government is just milking this scapegoat as much as they can.

No really, you can still take politicians and government officials out of office in protest ,in china you do that you will never be seen again.

Also when was the last time you see a Chinese officials doing something embarrassing and not seeing it online because government officials took it down.
Here we have all politicians posting themselves naked, penis and all LOL.

I agree that this is nothing more than countries posturing. Japan doesn't have the strength to actually go to war against China, and both countries know it is more harmful to them to fight at this time.
I'm more perturbed by how many of my Chinese friends think America is ready to jump in and fight against China for the sake of Japan. We may not be particularly happy about the rising power of China, but we aren't about to start a war with them, not for anything.

It's illegal protest now did you know that? Yeah protesting someone out of office is a thing of the past my friend

The scandals of politicians are distractions for the public away from whats really going on

Oh we know what going on, We just don't give a shit to do anything about,we just want to see what the Kardashians are doing and do not want see the serious world issues LOL. Some are just stupid or ignorant to know wants going on.

As expected, Chinese government starts calming down the riots now again.

It should however not be forgotten, that the loudest folks not always are the majority:

But the conflict itself will remain, and it sure will be broadened. Next step is, considering Ryukyu-Islands and Okinawa as being China's own "since ancient times" (自古以來):

Think you need to read up on this more. The Diaoyu/Senkaku islands aren't so clear cut as that.
