Cover photoshopping which went wrong

You'd never know that it's supposed to be her on the left. While she isn't as hideous as she was on the other cover, she's completly unrecognizable here. I don't know the girl on the right, but checking out some actual screencaps of the movie I'd say she didn't fare much better.

That is a good point, our examples don't really help much, when people don't know what the actresses actually look like.

I just grabbed these images from her blog. Unlike with Kawakami, I don't have any movies of her to take some screenshots, but I hope these'll do.
They both look a lot different than they do on those covers, that's for sure.
I don't think you should assume the "normal" photos or screenshots are representative of what the actress look like either. There are a lot of ways that an actress might look better or worse in photos or videos than she does in real life.

I avoid this video for a long time because of this cover, but I finally downloaded it after seeing the screenshots and she looks much, much prettier in the video. I don't know if the cover picture is the result of bad photography or bad photoshopping. Maybe it's both. Am I the only one who doesn't like these covers?

I dunno, I've always been pretty fond of WAAP's covers in general. They may have overdone the lighting on this one, but it looks like her alright.
Edit: Skimming through them right now, I'd say their Dream Shower series has some pretty good covers.

With all these terrible photoshops I wonder if they even hire pro photographers for these shoots.
The article below mentions something about make up artists working in JAV that i found interesting.

The cover of GVG-038 Reiko Sawamura Mother Estrus Black always stood out to me because they made her look like another actor (reminds me of Rei) with so editing, removing like half the length of her long face. Which I find really odd for a mature work since those mature features are usually what attract people.
