Inane makes an interesting point. I'm assuming he means "U.S." when he says "Western" porn. And Rhinosaur certainly has it right about the prevalence of BDSM in Dutch and (especially) German porn.
The thing about U.S. porn, especially the "mainstream" crap pumped out by all those studios in sunny, bankrupt Caulifornyaaahhhh is that it's basically infantile in its view and depiction of sexuality. Big Tits! Big Dicks! Dirty talk! Watching it is like listening to two ten-year old boys boasting to each other about their imaginary sexual conquests.
It's just a theory, but I think that, at root, is the fact of U.S. culture only being a few hundred years old. It's barely into adolescence compared to the cultures of Europe and Asia. Not yet adult in -- and therefore still in the process of forming -- what will be its cultural-sexual touchstones.
A famous man, well into middle-age and known for his sexual exploits, once told an interviewer that while he appreciated the physical beauty of young women (like, half his age or even younger) he was seldom attracted to them sexually.
Why, asked the interviewer?
Because, he said, they haven't had time to develop any truly interesting fetishes.
Maybe it's the same with cultures?
