For the past year or two, I'm seeing direct downloads trumping over torrents. Did I missed a memo? Any reason why people prefer direct downloads over torrents all of a sudden?

I prefer torrent over direct downloads as I can stop/pause and then resume while I'd have to restart all over for a file downloaded through direct download if I'd have to stop or momentarily lose my connection.

Not if you have Premium service of any file hosts. I personally had Rapidshare, and Bitshare in the past and currently have Hotfile and Filesonic. They all work for stop/pause resume, etc. I recommend using free download Managers like JDownloader or even the free download manager add-on of Firefox called Downthemall!

I always prefer direct downloads over torrents as I don't always have to wait for seeders to get back online after many times I'm only ninety something percent. I'm less patient with torrents so I prefer direct downloads.

I agree to antirad. It happened very often to me that I downloaded 8x or 9x% of a torrent and the rest was missing because the last seeders that owned that part went offline months ago and never comes back online.

But I also had the experience many times that the file hoster deleted the file - especially as they are consisting of many parts most of the time it's very frustrating that the last file with a few megabytes is missing as you already downloaded the rest of it. So you have delete all the files and search for new links. Not to mention the captcha solving in which you invested to so much time which went all to waste.

There is also Cheggit, a private ratio torrent site. Ratio torrents stop leechers as they must help seed torrents AND must upload new torrents as they can only get what they can contribute. I have a few torrents I've uploaded there several months ago and it is still active. I even see many torrents more than a year or even two still active in Cheggit. Btw, great new AMWF torrents you added here and thanks for using the amwf tag as I saw them.

There are people who can't use torrents as their ISP throttle torrent traffic or are concerned about privacy (IP is showed to anybody who are inside the torrent when anyone is online downloading/seeding the torrent) as they don't use a seedbox. I think both torrents and direct downloads are both useful options for people to download stuff.

Just thought of another reason why there are more people in Akiba using direct downloads than torrents. Currently I see only ads; four of them be be exact of file host companies that provides direct downloads. I was wondering how come there is no ads of seedbox companies like SeedM8 ? They have affiliate programs as well to help Akiba site to pay for server costs.

Seedbox protects users IP(using seedbox IP) while inside the torrent as well as uploading extremely fast to improve ratios in any torrents as well as providing multiple downloaders of a torrent a much faster speed to share to all. Also one can download directly from a seedbox very fast as the seedbox can get files downloaded and stored from a torrent as long as the seedbox user wants. Basically its torrent > seedbox > user
also vice versa.

If there are more people using seedboxes, then there will be more people using torrents.
