Maybe you forgot the password? I have used it for years and it has actually kept data safe from accidents as I encrypt an entire drive which is read as unmounted or inaccessable when the bugs come crawling.

Yeah, never had any problems either. It might be a problem if you bring an encrypted USB drive to a new computer as windows usually don't recognize and want to format it, but you can always cancel that dialog, then go to the diskmanager where you can remove the assigned volume letter.

Also a good idea to do a backup of Volume Header for extra security from the truecrypt tools menu...

Even if my family somehow got the HD they would be unable to break the encryption. It's a pity, as it's a pretty excellent collection. I should totally will it to someone, as was already stated by someone. But, I don't know anybody with my tastes... oh, well.

It's called redundant backups my good man. I've never lost anything with TC, but I know some day a hard drive will give out (again) so I have multiple TC backups.
