The legislative hearing this week for possible approval of SOPA
and E-PARASITES basically mean censorship online, and these terms
have almost always been accompanied by some action or movement
in the network.
Dot-BIT is the response to SOPA, a project to create a new Internet
domains outside the control of ICANN. A project that uses proxies
encryption and a small collection of DNS servers to create a section
of domain addresses on the network where each can be moved and
treated anonymously.
The group is carrying out the project thus seeks to avoid the threat
that could come in the form of blocks of domains that would make the
DNS more vulnerable.
Thus far, they say, more than 4,000 domains were registered in
Dot-BIT based in turn on top-level domain TLD.
These domains are only visible to people using the proxy recorded
in the distributed database project or for those who use one of
two public DNS servers of the same.
As equipped, Dot-BIT is not exactly a darknet as could be Tor, but is
not part of the open Internet. Its operation is derived from Namecoin
P2P technology derived in turn from that used in the famous Bitcoin
currency.
As Bitcoin, the system is driven by so-called encrypted tokens
namecoins which is the name of the currency. You then buy an
address in the space.
The entry cost is actually fairly low, registering a new
domain namecoins costs about 1.6, about 5 U.S. cents.
Obviously, the record will not be associated with the name
address or phone number but would be linked to the encrypted
identity anonymity.
Once the user has registered a domain, may be assigned by sending
an update request in JSON format, mapping DNS server domain or IP
address providing hosting and names that are distributed through
Dot-BIT proxies and public DNS servers.
Finally, the information will spread through P2P systems.
This is more or less Dot-BIT. Its construction was created with the
idea that other services like Tor, would be illegal through laws such
as SOPA.
The project allows anonymous and secure information exchange
will not be infallible DNS but not necessarily avoid censorship.
As simple as placing the law as white SOPA on these top-level domains
are removed from the sleeve to block a new regulation through ports or
other internal DNS filtering tool.
