Hi, Jakart3; the FA-PRO studio is unique, in itself making them worthy of appreciation. It's hard to describe their essence in so many words, what could one say? A good few of their movies have a gritty realism, sometimes in a soap operatic manner. Any studio's output can be hit-or-miss, obviously, but I find that can be particularly true of FA-PRO. You've got to be in the mood to handle some of their heavy-hitters, especially their historic fare.

Sometimes studios make sure to devote a "prefix" (which is what I call the letters appearing before the numbers of a DVD code) to specific topics, but generally, each prefix offers a mixed bag. I suppose if one were to study each of the three prefixes you mentioned, one could spot distinctive differences... but on the surface, I don't believe one specializes in anything more than the other. (One may compare in a quick way, FAD, FAX and HTMS.) The company is not limited to these prefixes, by the way; among others, you may also find AVOP, SGRS, JOHS, DTRS, FAJS, RABS, and RHTS.

Fa-Pro used to release all their movies using the FAD prefix which i believe was how they categorized their DVD releases. A few months later they would release the same movies digitally using the FAX prefix.

A few years ago they stopped that and started releasing movies using different prefixes that related to the director of the movie rather than just using the FAD prefix for all releases.

For example, the HTMS prefix is used for movies directed by Henry Tsukamoto. Other prefixes are SGRS for Gin Ryuuji or FAJS for Sen Ryuuji. The FAX code still seems to be in place for their digital releases.

I will say that i cannot confirm if this is the real reason or not but like you i have followed this studio for a long time and this is just what i think occurred. I hope somebody could confirm it using actual evidence though.

I spot-checked almost a dozen HTMS's from the four pages of HTMSs JAV Library has provided (using my own HTMS link from above), and every single one was directed by Henry Tsukamoto; I would suspect the same consistency, substituting for near-evidence, with the SGRS and FAJS examples given, along with their respective directors. This possibility has come entirely out of left field for me, because I would never have imagined, with perhaps isolated examples, that the directors would be regarded as such "stars." Bravo for your find, Motiman.

(This is not a hard-and-fast rule with all of their prefixes, however; I just checked a few of their FADVs and also a few from their AVOP line-up - different directors.)

Regarding your first point, that initial FAD movies were re-released as FAX, because the latter was now digital, that implies each FAD movie would have a FAX counterpart. (In other words, if you are looking for a FAD and can't find it, it may also exist as a FAX?) That comes as news to me, too.

It's just something i noticed when they switched over a few years ago. I have no hard evidence other than noticing it like you just did. You are right that not all prefixes relate to the directors as some are for compilations, or as in the case of the AOFR movies, re-releases of classic movies going back 30 years.

Also the AVOP prefix you refer to is not from Fa-Pro, but rather it is a annual competition/awards ceremony between all the big AV studios. You will notice from your link to the AVOP line up that 100 movies are being released on the same date and that's all part of the competition. You can find out more about it in the link below.

I just discovered a fantastic thread regarding FA-PRO movies, by Member Sokol001; those into this company's output may wish to check it out.

(HAVD is part of the family of FA-PRO? I did not know that.)

Exactly! HAVD is part of HIBINO, and it is one of the "prefixes" I have great respect for... along with its sister, HBAD. I suppose we can only guess at the reasons why Sokol001 decided to mix HAVD in with the FA-PRO flicks.

Oh, boy! I see Sokol001 has also compiled some of the NAGAE STYLE movies, output I have much fondness for. (Thanks for your expertise there, Motiman.) I have to hand it to Sokol001, as he has put a lot of heart and care into the presentation of these threads.

Pity he selected horrible, horrible Rapidgator as his filehoster for the downloads. On the bright side, many of the links appear to still be alive, although at least a year has passed with the earlier part of these threads.

so now i have a clear mission how to fill my harddisk,
starting with search for nagae style torrent (unfortunately my bandwidth can't handle direct dl from sokol001 thread),
anyone knows other video ID for uncensored movies but similar style with fa pro ??

btw, my other project is to search for some actress that appears in fa pro, i.e. yumi kazama,

That thread is not working
Because it is no longer of this world. Something happened to it in these past 8 years that made it unusable.

Well - here. Henry Tsukamoto JAVs.
From what I've read, and it may be inaccurate, he shot pinku eiga movies for Nikkatsu in their final years [~1986-88]. Nikkatsu was proud to announce that many of its behind-the-camera staff went on to other movies and videos.
I recommend setting up a subfolder in your JAV directory for each | both Nagae Style and FA-PRO JAVs. :D

Hi, as far as I remember FA PRO was what got me into JAV, because the way HENRY TSUKAMOTO films his scenes, there is not one else in this world who can match that level of story telling when it comes to adult content. I think that only NAGAE is one such director whose work seems similar to FA PRO, but still it seems like FA-PRO is in its own league altogether. And then I came across this tweet from NAGAE STYLE's twitter channel -

ymRYrST.png

Here NAGAE mentions how he considers himself as disciple of HENRY TSUKAMOTO, that is something which came in my mind 5 years ago, because there seems to be some similarity in their content. I thought to myself, well, this HENRY guy seems way more rooted and experienced, but NAGAE also almost comes close and after observing the repeatable male characters in both of their videos, I suspected that there has to be some connection between the two.

Now my question, why is there no information available about these people ?? Henry Tsukamoto has been working for 30+ years now, surely he may have done some interviews in the process or podcasts. I mean, I would love to know more about this mans journey, but there doesn't seem to be any content out there.

NAGAE is even more mysterious, I have been watching his content since 6-7 years now and I don't even know how he looks ! Surely there must be some behind the scenes videos or something that can allow us to know these people well.

I love both Henry and Nagae, loved the classics that Henry did and even some of the Nagae ones with the stories and a built up to the sex play rather than the no effort direct play. Nowadays they don't make movies like the old times, I wish they did, even if its in the low, I just miss the old times :(.

Henry interview(s) are available I think, maybe not that many. Nagae is total mystery, never seen any interview or any data site about them, totally a mystery person but watching their movies, definitely felt he had some or more influence from Henry, the above just proves they really did.

We need a movie about him like 'The Naked Director.' No other director seems to re-create the same vibrations that his movies give.
Maybe if one knows Japanese really well and is good at digging through Japanese websites, then there might be a lot of information about him.

Henry Tsukamoto does have a Youtube channel, where he mostly uploads some short stories with JAV and non-JAV actresses. Those seem like short stories revolving around eros in form or another, but there is never anything explicit there. You can also see the standard FA-PRO male actors in those videos.

In one video from his channel, they talk about the fact that he suffered a heart attack 1-2 years ago, that made me sad and also, he is not making any new content.

As I see it now, there are two ways we can get to know him, one is his new book which he released just recently, but whenever I search for it, it leads to Japanese sites.

And another major thing was one VICE JAPAN documentary on porn directors ,Henry can be seen talking about his style and all in the trailer, but sadly I have never found the full documentary anywhere online.

Yeah, I have checked out those resources and will keep digging to find more. His movies just have a different level of immersion.
I just hope he lives a healthy and happy retirement.

Returning to the codes for a moment, you'll find FAD code releases not only in line with FAX but also with others. Here are a couple of examples from my レズ collection:

FAX-440 = FAD-1597
DTRS-036 = FAD-2230
HQIS-058 = FAD-2260
HTMS-028 = FAD-1966

Try copying a link for a cover for one and doing an image search with Google Images or Yandex and you'll probably find both equivalents.

There are some other tie-ins such as covers showing both FAX- and just X- using the same number.

The same thing also occurs for FABS- and FABR- where I'm pretty confident these stand for (S)ale and (R)ental. A rental prefix or suffix happens routinely with many other studios. Many of these covers will even show "for sale" or "rental only" in English on them.

The sale and rental thing can be annoying because some studios not only have different letters but also different numbers. For example NSPS-196 (sale) and SBNR-288 (rental) are the same movies.
