The only thing that will help at this point is migration to a more powerful server.

interesting test site, nice post.

Yeah, Akiba-Online is not the fastest filly out of the gate but she has the stamina to last when other horses fade in the stretch.

Ask for donations or something... With $5 each member, I'm sure you could purchase a better server.
Put more ads on the forum... I don't know, but do something. Akiba-Online has been loading infernally slow lately. It often is unreachable. :sigh:

One thing to keep in mind is that there are things out of our control. I know that this sounds like I am stating the obvious, (and I am), yet this is an important first step. I know for a fact many diehard Akiba-Online members are sick and tired of the slow periods and below par site performance. I never said I was not one of these members. Yet I am still interested in visiting here because this site hosts what I am interested in. I also realize they have been struggling with speed and performance issues for years. But all that is out of my control.

What is in my control? This is the most important question to ask oneself. What can I do to make my visits here better. I use Firefox with NoScript, (thanks for the suggestion chompy), although I never use script when I am here, (although some might want to). Not using javascript or limiting its' use will cut down on your browser load times, making the site seem faster. All the ads and javascript actually slow down your browser, (for even faster browsing try turning off images in your browser).

Another thing in my control is when I choose to surf here. If the site is busy and slow, try coming back later. There are plenty of things I would change about this site, speed is certainly one of them. But when it comes down to it, it is more important to accept what I cannot change and concentrate on what I can, (aka the Serenity Prayer).

You should also try to avoid the busy hours when the massive japanese community is browsing the forum, around 12:00-19:00 GMT time.
Akiba-Online is on the top 200 most browsed sites from japanese people. :gayprance:
