A rare example of a strong story-telling and progression of time is RBD-818 Neighbor Exchange with Nanami Kawakami and Mao Hamasaki. It's one of the more overlooked genre called "Drama" in which the sex scenes are interspersed with lots of talking scenes. The talking scenes were clearly at different locations (different rooms of the home, office, hotel and resort) and different times and days. And of course a drama has story progression, as Nanami was initially harassed by Mao's husband (and neighbor and boss of her husband) at the same time (and separately) Mao began tempting Nanami's husband. The story escalate until finally they created a situation Nanami and her husband has to watch each other as they are being fucked by Mao's husband and Mao.

Not exactly Oscar winning film-making but I enjoy it.
