How large is your JAV collection?

Hello everyone.

I have been a lurker here for a long time now and I have always been a fan of JAV. For the past year or so I have been collecting a lot of JAV movies that tickle my fancy. Most of what I collect is bukkake, gokkun, blowjobs, deepthroat, handjobs, a few piss movies, solo movies with dirty talk (which I try to use to learn some new Japanese words once in a while), and other particular fetishes.

My collection right now is about 2.2TB in size backed up on two different hard drives. I put all the movies I have in a VLC playlist and it adds up to around 2664+ hours if you played them all back to back. That is around 111 days of non-stop JAV.

I am curious to know how large your collections are, and if you can figure it out, how many hours/days of JAV you all have?
who is the girl in your profile picture?

One thing that really psychologically screwed me up, was (ironic enough, considering my old profession of Digital Archival on HDDs) instant access to data (jav/porn included). The ability to find exactly what I wanted (or didnt want) contributed to my mental instability in an unforeseen way. I greatly took it for granted that I had this stuff, and it became too common-place for me. I hope that with discs, I mentally restrain myself to at least having to browse through hundreds and thousands of discs before finding what I want (shortly, all will be re-bagged in plastic cpp sleeves, and given a printed out mailing label with the contents of the disc on it - all for ease of use). Its easy to manage (for me) when you keep a list of what you have (for JAV, I have a simple word document that just lists all the JAV I have, so I can ctrl+f to verify I either do or do not have a copy), though this is easiest to do towards the start of one's collection (starting from scratch gave me this opportunity, though I admit that for my western stuff (specifically the individual videos I have on discs, rather than full siterips), I haven't really been keeping up with a list, like I should, though my siterips are easy to organize and create a list for - just that the single videos can be a pain because of all the typing one must do).

I think most of us who archive/save with discs sort of view ourselves as kin to those Peruvian "dvd pirates" that VICE made a documentary on, and our collections we tend to wish looked like those in that aforementioned documentary's dvd stall/shop. The truth is that we are more like the stereotypical Russian with a Windows XP machine, who is afraid of the police kicking in the door at anytime. We all tend to build up an image of ourselves, and this tends to be "holier than thou". I simply look forward to the day when all my discs are properly bagged, with labels, and easy to find, but not easy enough for me to descend into madness once again. The CD/DVD/Blu-Ray offers us the ability to burn and forget about it, by putting it into a binder or dvd/cd box (snap n store), and basically forget about it. I have no clue where I will be in 5 years, but wherever I am, it is safe to say that somewhere, I will have at least 1000 discs full of JAV goodness (Also considering burning full discographies of music to blu-ray/dvd) somewhere nearby.

Sorry for my long, rambling stream of consciousness, as with topics like these, my ability to write academic sounding reports for online forums is sub-par to say the least.
No need to apologize for the ramble, I get it actually. I can relate to what you are saying on a personal level too. I used to burn all my JAV to DVD and had an obsessive system to track the location and disc number for everything as well. I had books and books of burned disks. Needing to maintain a certain physical distance to the collection so that you have psychological balance makes a lot of sense. Burn and forget (or maybe burn and churn) gave me a sense of progression and progress -- once that disc was properly burned, sleeved and cataloged, I could turn my attention to something else.

Back in 2004 I copied all my DVDs back to HDD, and then in 2013 I did a bulk delete - maybe about 10 TB of stuff. I wanted to pare things down to an amount that seemed watchable in my lifetime. :p I try to now focus on watching and deleting rather than cataloging and burning. This feels like it honors the work put into these treasures in a new and different way for me Just a variation on how to engage with the hobby.

No way is better than the other way. JAV is a gift. What you do with it is a personal choice (although staying psychologically healthy is probably something to prioritize).

Exactly, and Im glad that you get it! Not many understand my mentality. Burning them to disc and being able to store them offsite (I have a storage unit I have 5,000 books, comics, mags, etc. in that are organized and on cinder block bookcases (10 ft)) is a godsend, and lets everyday feel new, without having to look at all of them at once. I do enjoy spending time at my unit though. One of these days I might get a few media shelves, but for now, Im sticking with Snap N Store boxes (double wide). Only downside to my collection right now is that I have out of code (ABC on same disc as DEF) JAVs together. Not to mention that I do siterips, but have some dvd where its individual videos I like. Oh the headache! Seeing the progress is important for me, and having them on disc is safer than drives, and cheaper as well. I just paid $136 (not including tax at 6 percent) for 600 25GB Blu Rays, which is 15TB of space for less than the cost of an 8TB drive (those being 170 each now, not including tax). Nearly double the space, 30 less bucks, and EMP proof (well, unless the EMP is in the same room as the discs). My collection as it stands is apocalypse ready... though Id need a blu-ray burner/reader and a computer in a faraday cage to be able to read the discs, IIRC, blu rays can last 50-100 years if burnt at home, and stored right, which is the biggest thing.

Apocalypse proof optical media is truly the best, and gives a warm feeling inside, knowing that whatever happens, so long as the discs are kept safe, the data should be safe as well. Compare that with a fragile hard drive, and that an EMP would wipe flash storage/memory. I also print porn pictures and doujins, and though I love optical media, they are still digital, whereas no electronics are needed to "Read" printed material. Is what it is I suppose, and im happy with my life choices, and feel secure in my collection. Instead of using failed discs as coasters, I take em with me to use as target practice. I suppose that is also a good way to get rid of them if needed (I have U-15, which, while not illegal, always teeters on that thin gray line, and, while even if made illegal I dont plan on destroying them, if I feared for my security, then I'd have a great way to).

I use a 5TB external drive I got one of my grandparents to purchase for me a month ago as my disc backlog for videos waiting to be burned. Works great, but fills quickly as I tend to download a lot of stuff. Also got back into Anime, and since getting the blu ray discs, I have started downloading Blu Ray quality anime. Most of my discs however are used as one would use a flash drive (plug and drop), rather than burning as ISO to play on a TV or Portable DVD/Blu Ray player.

JAV is indeed a gift, and I intend to milk it for all its worth. I have this image in my head that at some point in the future, I will have every JAV ever made. Though I had the same image back when I downloaded onto external drives, and see how that turned out. At least with discs, I can store them offsite, and they look pretty on a shelf (Since switching to plastic sleeves rather than homemade paper ones).

Im rambling...

@raoyiyuan02 - impressive! I did a quick calculation, 12,000 movies with an assumed average duration of 1.5 hours would take you 6.16 years to watch if viewing 8 hours a day.

Do you watch multiple movies per day? Do you watch anything other than JAV? How long has it taken you to get up to 12,0000 movies watched?

using potplayer ,kmplayer and dvdfabplayer 6 playing speed from x12 to x32 , and skip the scence without the sexual intercourse or without the wardrobe malfunction part,I can save a mass of time for watching a large number of jav ,to tell you the truth I spend 2 hours average per day watching japanese mosic porn video, and believe in me its really addicted.

No ,i will delete all jav from my hard disk which i have already watched . but i will mark the sign about all jav I've watched on my javlibrary account: http://www.p54u.com/cn/userwatched.php?mode=&u=raoyiyuan02&page=1 now i am ranking NO.1 who have watched the largest number of jav on javlibrary in this world.
See I didn't ask the questions @Casshern2 and @r00g asked because at first I didn't take you seriously. Sure yeah over 12000, over 120000 ~whatever~, And watched fully? I have over 1500 vids in my collections which means I probably ever collected under 2000 vids... And of those I watched fully? Maybe 20? 50? A very good JAV will last me only 15 mins (when I was young a few times I would blew my load from just the pre-title mini-preview before film itself properly begins). A boring one I be skipping at least a 10:1 ratio (end up with watching just for 10 mins). (my finger hovers between the "Skip ahead 10 sec" and "Skip ahead 1 min" buttons.

Yes a very few good JAV I watched from beginning to end, even a few times. Esp. the story/dialog scenes. Strangely I tend to do the opposite of you, I might more likely to fully watch a clothed scene, and skim the undressed/sex scenes at 2:1 to 10:1 ratio.

On an average day I think I watch 0.1-0.25 JAVs. But you actually tracked each JAV that you watch... MY GODS.

For my self I found out that keeping a small but very high quality collection works best. Many years ago I used to hoard multiple terabytes, but eventually I found out that no matter how much content I had I always preferred to watch the same 20-30 videos. So, eventually I decided to keep a small collection of the stuff I never get bored of. Works great, I open something randomly, and never feel like watching something else because all the videos I keep are 10/10.

@Burdeos - I would love to get there, but I can't quite pare things down that far. Trying to go for a balance - delete anything that is a 7 or below, and keep the real-good ones. Thing is, it's so damn easy to horde... My hat is off to you for having such restraint!

What I used to do initially when i stopped hoarding was, using RNG to pick a video to watch. If i watched it, then good, it stayed, and if i felt like i'd rather watch something else i deleted it. Eventually i managed to narrow it down to the videos i could watch over and over without getting bored, and got rid of everything else.
And to this day i keep using RNG to select a random video and scene of that video (because who has 2 hours to watch the whole thing?). It helps keep things fresh, because otherwise you'd always have selection bias towards couple of videos, that you'd watch until you start hating them.
All in all hoarding has it's pros, but at the end of the day it's too much of a time investment. The deeper you get into hoarding the more you spent time file managing rather than watching the jav itself.

This is one of the reasons I deleted all my things multiple times. Though, Optical Media helps greatly with management. Burn once, keep a physical log of what is on the disc, and thats it!
