Yes, now that I see this again I have no idea at all how I could have thought 0,5 million yen a year was normal, I blame it on lack of sleep.

.5 million is not much at all for a regular salary, but it's good money since the work they do isn't much more than a couple of hours over a day or two every now and then.
It's mostly just for that extra cash that helps you getting by or to have an easier life.

well, in the US, 8,000 dollars a month isn't really alot. my father makes well over 10,000 dollars per month, even without year end bonuses he gets. he is a investment banker of course
