i was thinking about creating a website dedicated to Japanese AV

yes, it could be very different from the thousands blog floating around the net...

it should be about informations/screenshots/AV actress filmography/ecc; in other words, a reviews site

absolutely NOT download links/torrents; why?
1. there are already too many of them
2. we already have AO
3. it would take too much precautionary measures, and my country's laws are not exactly pro-filesharing

i searched for something similar but i found nothing close to what i aim to do...only collections of covers or half-dead communities

so, think about javparadise or asianscreens (just to give you an idea), but better, from a collector point of view
people could check it before buy/download their movies, or could add their opinion/rating after viewing them

do you think it could work? and which kind of site should it be: a simple website, a normal forum (phbbb, invision..), or something more complex (joomla)?

Sounds like a good idea, perhaps you could refer people to AO for downloads and people from AO could go to your place where you could host previews, screencaps, reviews and opinions. I like that idea, just make it a user friendly place will ya?

that's exactly my idea

i would like to start with something simple, like the phpBB forum, and switch to joomla when/if something more complete will be needed

and yes, user friendly it will be: no popups, intrusive ads or other BS

i don't know how the movies will be categorized though....by genres, producers, actress or what?
that's actually the biggest unsolved problem, since the rest would come with time

A sort program with a drop down menu perhaps should allow it to be catagorized by all three, you may wish to include thread start time and most recent comments as well. It is actually a big undertaking and you would need enough people interested and committed to it to make it work. Without moderators and regular maintenance a site doesn't have much of a chance to make a go of it.

it doesn't require a lot of work setting up a basic joomla site, and it would have all the needed searching/posting tools

that won't solve the problem though: it's not convenient to archive a large enough amount of data without a proper categorization system (folders, directories...)

i didn't think about mods and admins yet, because it seems too early for that (the site doesn't even exists yet ), but they will come if there will be enough visitors

mmmhh...i'm going to try something; will post a sample link when ready

the content is not a problem: i have more than 500 movies in my personal collection, and more than one hundred hosted in various sites, but adding them all will kill me.... :death:

You know the saying:
If it ain't broke...

Why don't you try to start a thread here & get a feel of what you're getting into.
Get your name out & gather a "following".
Once you feel you're ready to give it a go let people who follow your thread know what your trying to do & just to offer some support for your effort.

Not trying to discourage you but, I've seen so many blog type sites fail in the past.

AO is the only place that has survived.

You're planning to turn a profit from this?
It's highly unlikely you'll make anything trying to get people to pay for JAV unless you have a major distributing company to work with.
You need to be able to keep up with all the competitors in making sure you offer all the newest titles & also an extensive collection of older titles people may want to buy.

To get something like this up & running is simple.

Getting enough traffic/interest will be the hard part.
Spamming other board with link is usually forbidden @ most places too.
How you market your product will be the key to your success.
Find a solution to advertising is also something you may want to look into.
"Word of mouth" is also a great way to get started.(it's free)

It's not as simple as setting up a blog, it's making sure you stay on top once you've reached the top.

There must be around 10000 releases per year, so figure out what is awaiting you etrfied:
No wonder there is always something new to be found on the torrents/ddl sections.

On my side, I'm trying to make an list for everything before 1999 (the VHS era), with title, reference, release date and NEVA censorship certificate.

do you like the posts with a title, maybe a small cover.... and nothing more? would you download the files without knowing what they're about? there are HUNDREDS posts of this kind here...heck! i don't even like the way I'M posting
BUT if you could have a title, a cover, and a link to a FREE forum where you'll find anything related to that movie wouldn't it be totally different?

no, NO and NO! i wrote BUY just because i'm sure there are some real collectors here, who like to buy the best videos they can find (i'd do it too, if the prices weren't so high)

did you ever tried to google the disc ID of the movie you'll searching for? well, i'm doing it all the time and the results are pretty good, but amongst the good links there are also TONS of useless matches....
once i found my stuff i usually end up lurking at these sites; wouldn't the same be applied to my forum? AND it will be truly related to the title searched

thanks for the reality check :defeat:

since the site will be no-profit (or at least i'll try to keep it without ads), i'm absolutely not in a rush
my schedule is monthly based: in a month or two i can put up all my movies, then i will proceed to archive the new releases

EDIT: by new releases i don't mean ALL the new movies: just the most popular ones, or the mainstream, or genre related (mature it's my cup of tea), or reviewing only what's posted on AO...


I really do appreciate your comments and suggestion guys;
please reply again if you think my logic is flawed, but be sure to fully understand what i'm planning to do
