Incorrect 720p resolution in Direct (JAV) Downloads

I'm not sure with the other direct download threads but this one is pertaining to JAV Downloads. Can we bring back the correct resolution for 720p files? It's called 720p because it has a display resolution of 1280 x 720, not 768 x 432. Maybe at least label it correctly so that others can share their "correct" 720p file since from what I know, others cannot share their upload once there's already one (even if the resolution is incorrect). I don't quite see the problem since it's been done in the past. Not to mention, in this day and age, the minimum standard resolution should be 720p (1280 x 720).

we have been trying to get the correct information on posts, it should be on all posts in all parts of the site,
not only 720p, we have been working on correctness for sometime, but because of the quantity many get through.

"minimum standard" we can make it, but we will not, main reason many do download to smart phones now, and still in some places of poor reception and weak lines, (in my opinion no harm having smaller files, and that is not an issue if clearly marked)

Appreciate the feedback. Point taken re: smaller files. So it comes down with the correct tag/label then. In that way, others can share the correct resolution.

I've been cracking down on post information a lot in the past couple months. I've also been more insistent on people providing more technical info from all the versions to avoid bad information as much as possible but at the scale some of the uploaders post at, it's not always easy for them to accomplish flawlessly and for us to check it all.

There is an absolute ton of mistakes I'm sure(breaks my heart when an uploader complains he has been doing something something the wrong way for years or that everyone does it that way when I tell them they're messing up) but the biggest offender should have fixed that specific issue(SD as 720p) for good(fingers crossed cause it was a lot of work to make that happen) and if you see any bad information in future posts(or from past posts that still matter), do use the report button to let us know since it's impossible for us to check it all and even less so to download everything to check it's right.
If it gets reported, we will fix it to the best of our abilities.

It is possible for other people to share even if the same resolution has already been posted, but there needs to be a difference that justifies it. A lot of uploaders were making garbage encodes just to justify being able to post so we had to put some restrictions on what they could post and it's all explained in a fairly detailed manner in this post: https://www.akiba-online.com/thread...deo-that-already-exists-on-the-forum.2140184/
For example, it's perfectly fine to upload a high quality 720p if the first poster only uploaded a small sized low quality 720p file and any non/less-watermarked version can be posted any time if there's only watermarked versions available.

We want to put as little restrictions as possible on uploaders so having a minimum resolution is pretty much out of the question, especially since there are still DVD only releases getting new posts but we still need some to keep everyone happy as much as possible.

Thank you so much for this. I'm glad to know that you guys are also aware of these issues. I forgot about the report button, sorry about that. I'll use that next time I see inconsistencies.

Oh, I see. I actually spoke to some uploaders in regard to this. I guess there were misunderstandings. From what I understood with what they said, they stopped uploading since they encountered problems with the first poster, despite their files having a higher quality. I really don't remember the details but that's somehow the gist of it. Anyway, I really appreciate your feedback on this. Sorry if I may sound a bit nitpicky with this issue. I just kind of miss those times when the uploads were consistent.

Yeah, there has been issues over the years with uploaders fighting each others so I'm sure some got into the crossfire of that and got discouraged since we didn't have the best solution right away and it's not something easy to enforce since many will lie to us and do sneaky things to gain an advantage. It's easy to just crank up the bitrate and say it's higher quality and 2 files with the exact same bitrate can have vastly different quality so it's hard to enforce perfectly, which is why I asked for a screenshot to be provided in that specific case to prove it in the post(which means downloading the other poster version first), but if we know someone is reliable, there's always ways to make things less tedious if they keep in communication(a few uploaders hang out in our IRC channel, #akiba on rizon.net, where we can deal with problems faster).

I thought up that post fairly recently to make sure everyone clearly understand what is allowed(but I can't force people to read it and I only pointed the more problematic uploaders I know about to it) since most of it was simply told to uploaders directly as necessary and tried to make is as fair as possible but it's not an easy task. Not all mods have the same technical knowledge I have either so it's even harder for them.

Believe me, I miss the old times a lot myself, especially having access to iso files which is a lot more rare nowadays, but the times have changed quite a bit and we adjust to it as best we can. It has become a lot more about money rather than passion for uploaders.

My uploads were deleted even if I posted something of noticeably better quality and smaller size
Nobody cares about quality
Files from filesharing sites are deleted quite quickly, when torrents can be seeding for years

You know I care about quality a lot with the encoding discussions we've had in the past.

But like I said, it's hard to enforce so I'm sure many have been deleted in the past that shouldn't have been. That's why I added to prove/explain it in the explanation thread since it will let us know we should look into it in more details.

And how fast files get deleted depends entirely on users. I've seen torrents die in a week(not JAV ones though) and I have ddl links that are over 2 years old in my FJ account. As long as people keep downloading them, they'll stay alive.

I went back 4 years of your posts and see none deleted, so please give better details than that

Yeah, we found that one looking a different way, it was a mistake. If something like that happens, just let a mod know if you think it's a mistake and we'll look into it.
You want it undeleted or not worth it since the link is dead?
