Correct me if I'm wrong, but I used to think that sites like Javlibrary and AV Idol Listing X City had the whole list of new girls debuting each month. If a worried father/mother wants to know, those sites would be terribly useful, but then again, I guess I'm wrong to think those sites have a complete list. Maybe even the AV producers have their own sites that are too niche for even us, western AV fans.

I wonder how many debut girls is missing a normie like me TwT.

In theory yes you are right. If a parent id determined to find out if his/her daughter is in porn, it would be inevitable to find the truth.

In practice, how many parents would browse JAV sites regularly to check for their daughter's face showing up on the covers. Way way way below 1%, I'd bet. Even if you count a girl's extended family, the chance that it would blow up is still small enough. Say a 23 year old debutant may have a cousin who's 15 year old boy who's obsessed with JAV (quite a likely scenario) he may notice her on a cover. But it's unlikely he will make a fuss about it. Exposing his cousin as sex worker does him no good and is against traditional Japanese values. In Japan there's no punishment for keeping secrets and no reward for exposing others. Even a father if he discovers his daughter is a porn star may choose to keep quiet about it. It's within the range of response for a Japanese father.

Of course small chance still means it does happen. So if a young performer suddenly and permanently retire that may be the reason. Also some old timer idols if you look into her history many of them had a phase they retire and then unretire or just quietly disappear for a few months. So these things do happen but chance is low enough that many girls, driven by situations and/or by choice would take the risk.

If jav is so taboo in Japan; why is it so popular and ubiquitous?
Why do so many beautiful young women get drawn to it?(money of course).

Is money so hard to come by in japan?

Just asking...
What do you mean "JAV taboo in Japan", simply parents not will be proud when get to know that their daughter shooting in porno (i think in America or Europe the same). "Many beautiful young women" - where?

I do not understand your question I think...

"where?" in JAV.

But you did answere my question with shame of parents. I think maybe it was my stupid question.

Although I think it is unfair for jav stars to decide to remove all their movies. The stars should keep making money from their movies and so should the studio. If you decide to do jav then live with it because it will never go away.

If you delete old movies it will just end up lowering the pay for new girls.
Japanese porno industry it's a kind of phenomenon which is not in any country in the world and say that JAV taboo in Japan it's a little strange, but in the future everything may be, unfortunately many things change for the worse.
About my question, I'm not satisfied with the quality of the new girls. Yes, still there are new cute girls, but very rare appears really beautiful girls (IMHO), it was better before. But I recently started to get involved in JAV, and I have enough of what is, you can always find a new beautiful girl from the past.

Trusty Playno1 gave us couple gossips, hope to calm down nervous fans.
1. S1 down to 5 active idols??? Rara Anzai no new vids?
Worry not, not too much at least, S1 is losing a few top talents to Faleno, But Rara Anzai disappeared from S1 listing is just a quirk of their policy of only putting idol in listing if she has a current vid coming up, but for probably related to Covid-19, her vid is delayed, along with many studios and idols. So her face is not on the S1 active list for now.

SOP for AV production is this; filming, editing, mosaic, censor-approval, release. The whole process takes 3-4 months. Since the lock-down, various steps of the JAV "supply chain" has become delayed or blocked up, so now we start to see new vids releases being affected.

2. Huge number of idol stopped updating SNS
Many fans like to follow idol's SNS, like Twitter, IG, now even TikTok. As seen in the past, if an idol stop posting to her SNS is a warning of career change. But current wave of no-update is just a temporary effect of Covid lockdown.

E.g. 天川そら Sora Amakawa, she was never super keen to post on SNS anyway. Now lockdown has temporarily suspended any AV promotional activity, she just got too lazy to put on make-up, get out to do anything interesting, and invent something interesting to post on SNS. It's too tempting to just stay home all day and play Animal Crossing.

Note that this is hinting many idols consider SNS as unpaid work, not as some fans imagine as a window into idol's honest and private life.

Some commenters also add that Japanese netizens like to post rude and insults on any celeb, esp. AV idol's SNS. This has a negative effect on idol's morale and so many idols rely on agency and studio to craft their SNS messages. It's carefully managed to promote vid sales and other income-generating activities while minimize chance to be insulted. Also affected recently by net-bullying are 白葉りこ, 坂道みる,桜空ももand "Nameless" of SOD.

3. Arina Hashimoto fundraiser aborted due to Covid
橋本ありな Arina Hashimoto's campaign to raise fund for her gravue production (presuming going to faraway location such as Okinawa) is aborted. The money already pledged will be refunded to the fans. The target was 5 million yens, on the first day more than half was already raised but actually it failed expectation. I guess the planners were expected the funding will be front-loaded. Sure enough until now the prject is still short by 1.8 mil, do the math the whole period from day 2 to now was no more than 0.7 mil. So with 30 days to go, the fundraiser was called off. Covid is definitely a factor because consumer confidence is down. Esp. the top level contribution, which will buy you the experience of walking down a church with Arina in bride's gown, cost 1.5 mil. So one funder could make up most of the shortfall already. But now it seems almost impossible such a "prince on white horse" will show up. So better to abandon the project and blame it on Covid then to face the embarrassment of missing the target.

rola misaki... wish it was subbed

The audio is pretty bad, with very heavy echo and too-loud BGM. The worst part is I have no confidence what to believe or not of anything that's said in the vid. I will try to watch it again ... there are a lot said of her making money in China, not doing AV. I guess that's kinda interesting and not well known in English fandom.

OK found a better vid: clear audio and Chinese hard-sub, you guys can use your phone with Google Translate to get the story. For some unexplainable reason I found this guy's version much more convincing.

Adult work is seen differently in Japan. It's not as dangerous as it is in the west for a start. And there are different levels of it, from really tame stuff like "sleepover cafes" where the girls are just wearing pajamas and talking to you, to hostess clubs, to pink salons and visiting your home for sex. Then you have soaplands and este (massage) places. Actually este is usually not allowed to do anything sexual, at least officially.

So there are a lot of options for women to make money that way. But maybe they don't want to deal with random strangers who come in to those shops so they try AV instead. Everyone is tested, it's all safe, and they can make big money for a short time and then quit. Probably no one will find out.

I tried tranlsting hard subs with Yandex ocr (https://translate.yandex.com/ocr) and the first few slides were nonsense.

I used google audio translate and it made more sense but still hard to follow.

Of interest is the part where rola was paid by some business people for companion ship. But the translation is ambiguous. Iif you want full text I can send it for you but probably doesn't add much t o mr ding73ding.
Hmm disappointed machine trans fail again...

No need for any work on your part. I will give you the gist based on memory (my memory of what the Youtube vid was saying):
On such a such date, from some such such source the rumor came out that such a such rich .COM guy in China had paid a huge sum of money for the "exclusive" service of Rola. More explicitly Rola would be promoting his company and products, less explicitly Rola would be having unprotected sex with him. Then a short time later the rich dude made some kind of denial statement, and she also made some kind of denial. At the least, within a year she was spotted working in Tokyo brothel, and later promoting other Chinese companies, and continued to make JAV. during this time according to the original rumor she would still be bound by the exclusive contract. In finality, the general consensus but not confirmed by anyone officially was the the whole "contract" thing is a deliberate scam made by Rola herself with unwritten cooperation with the rich dude to generate hype and notoriety for mostly herself and also the .COM guy. There was money involved, pretty much can be sure, but nowhere near as much as the rumor says. Also can assume plenty of sexual service was provided, but not like an exclusive mistress relation as the rumor implied.

The opinion of the vid is that she made only 34 JAV in her whole career, and average sales figures of her vids were unimpressive. So pure JAV-wise, neither quantity nor quality. But more take this angle, she made some JAV in order purely to add that to her career profile in order to increase her earning power in China. Her real career is promotional events and mistress-ing in China. If you think she's Japanese with some Russian blood then it's harder to figure out. Why wouldn't she put more effort in JAV? But if you see her as Russian with some Japanese blood and can get by with spoken Japanese, then yes, from her point of view. She can make a good living off her Caucasian looks and some JAV credentials can get boost from good living to star-status. And looking at JAV career, it's hugely competitive, she might feel zero confidence JAV fandom would support as high (money wise) and as long (years wise) as Chinese rich dude sugar daddies.

Big news: JAV studios are resuming filming despite Covid shutdown. With state of emergence extended to end of May but some prefectures are itching to resume business activities, JAV studios are deciding to resume filming. No mention of any specific cautionary procedures but hopefully everyone would be careful. Actually playno1 mention that some studios never even suspended operation thru it all. So we can expect new releases will be returning to normal level in July. (how long it takes for new vids from filming (say today) to release)

Is it just me or...

I amnot very excited about current aipoke or S1 releases. Faleno has taken some talent.

I guess I am too loyal to sora tina aino...

The glory days of JAV are behind us.
If you're lucky, you get a single exciting debut a year. If that.

JAV idols post Amazon Wishlist on Twitter

Several idols: Riho Fujimori (@all_riho123), @mion_Princess @Shizuku_T_0315 posted their Amazon shopping list on their twitter feed, so fans can buy them gifts they want. Typical items are fancy (diet) snacks, cosmetics, pet food and toys, and high end home appliances. Don't know if it's Covid related, but this is one more way for fans to support AV idols very directly. Also you can browse the products the idols like as a little peek into her private live. But don't expect you can learn her delivery address or any personal details.

I saw mention in a comment on jav guru site that Shiraha Riko and Amakawa Sora are also leaving S1? Any confirmation or info on whether they are retiring or going to another label?

桜井彩 Aya Sakurai @sakurai_aya_ expressed suicidal thoughts on IG

The whole story is long and complicated and ongoing, so instead of giving you the latest news, I give a very brief timeline:

2018-03-15 Aya said last year (2017?) she was r***ing by a person self-identified as a fan, at night after an AV shooting session. The suspect was arrested last month (2018-02?). But she is still suffering from panic attacks due to the r***, and would suffer asthma-like symptoms and so have reduced her filming schedule.

2019-12-8 Aya declare she is retiring, due to previous mentioned situations. She suffer some kind of post-traumatic syndromes when she’s at AV filming session. During this period, she had been working fan-interaction events and as hostess at the Red Dragon Hotel. It seems fans were not a net-positive effect on her mental states.

2020-5-18 Aya post a photo of many packs of pills and wrote she would commit suicide before (rather than) being killed and dumped into Tokyo Bay (like in every country, there’s a fate worse than dead is being dead and missing). Her IG is a bit incoherent and cryptic. Seems she has offended some person or persons (she is not sure herself) and feel that her own life is threatened and very terrified.

2020-5-20 Aya posted a photo taken from apartment window downward, hinting that she might jump. That post was very quickly deleted. Further details collected by playno1 and summarized/speculated is roughly: her agent/manager was made to go to apologize (in formal Japanese traditional way) to someone or some party, this much seems to be a fact. Was there really threat of violence (even death) on her person? This is less sure. She had been seeing a psychiatrist (this is pretty serious since Asians are very reluctant to admit to need psychiatric help) Playno1 was unable to find any posts on her IG that might be offending to anyone (esp. some kind of important/powerful person). It seems she had accidentally taken a few more pills or the wrong pills and fainted on the balcony. Also offhandedly Playno1 mention the person arrested for her r*** might have been given a suspended sentence and currently working in Shinjuku (like saying he’s working in Beverly Hills), which isn’t helping her to recover. Generally speaking, in Japan, a r*** (non-consensual sex) often doesn't result in prison time. Factors that would count against a victim would be she's not rich/connected, she's working in adult industry, the accused has money and means. Not saying that's her case, but any particular case might involve many not-publicly-known factors and those are common ones.

For now her mood seems to have calmed down and hopefully things won’t get worse from here.

History lesson (abridged):
Most likely as result of Harvey Weinstein and Metoo movement in USA, in 2016 an AV idol (it was not secret, but no need to revisit her identity now) complain to the authority that she was coerced by agency to shoot AV. The agency MARKS Japan which was one of the more famous one, eventually collapsed and several people were arrested (no details if any were convicted and/or sent to prison). A long saga follows as other organizations (self-claimed human rights advocates), industry and current and retired idols work out an agreeable reform program. Outcome is now every single shot require a new contract signing and the signing must be video-taped for records and with witnesses present. ETC...

Another major outcome is a performer, upon five years after her retirement, can apply to have some/all of her vids removed from retail catalog, including physical shops, online retailers (mainly DMM and Amazon) and digital copies. The digital copies especially affect customers who brought DRM-protected digital copies. They paid a "purchase" price for the product but when an performer successfully delist her vid from retail, this also terminate the digital-copy owner from viewing their already-purchased vids.

For full version of history, read it in many threads and posts on this forum.

So here is a 2 years update/revisit of the 5-years delist rule.

How many videos have been removed from retail catalog? 10,508.
How many videos delisting have been applied? 12,445.
Why those (almost) 2000 applications were denied? Of those 65 vids were uncensored (e.g. Caribbean, Heyzo), with the publishers are businesses registered in foreign countries (pretty much: USA) so Japanese government, rather... the 5-yr rule isn't even Japanese law, it's a industry self-imposed regulation enforced by mutual goodwill. So US companies obviously don't follow the rules. But the majority of denials are result of (1) gross mistakes and (2) lack of evidence/documentation, e.g. she can't prove she's the performer in the video that she is applying to delist.

But overall, delisting success rate is over 84%, so basically the industry (agency, studios, publishers, retailers) are not resisting the delisting, most applications are just accepted directly.

So really how many girls were coerced into performing in AV? Very few.

Yeah... not at all precise and not hugely convincing answer. But I won't translate playno1's whole paragraph on it. Just his final reply to the question: very few.
