I have 175 TB mostly 5 tb Seagate portables. When I run out of space, I throw in another 5tb Seagate for $90. My best stuff goes on my 1tb ssd (3x). I probably only watch 1% of what I have. Organization in this order via label on the harddrive, via actress I like, via studio I like, and code grouping. Search via window file explorer.

I feel your pain... ;)
Yeah.. It can feel very overwhelming at times. But it should be somewhat doable to "catch them all", thanks to lesbian being only a small slice of all of JAV. It will just take a few years lol. JavLibrary has 16,600 movies in their database. I'd say a good 40% of those are "ineligible", being omnibuses, collections, too hetero, too disgusting, too uninteresting etc. But they don't have everything, and I've found a lot more movies by browsing JavTrailers, especially old stuff. And just recently I opened the can of worms that is Paradise TV. Don't know why they aren't on JavLib. So many movies gaddammit! If I were to hazard a guess, there's maybe around 1000 more lesbian movies there. Combined with the 10,000 eligible movies from JavLib, it's about 11k movies to complete the hoarding. I'm 30% there! :p

It certainly gives you an understanding of each studio's style and how they stack up historically.

I dont have anything close to what others have. Also most of my collection is from downloads from streaming sites so its not as high quality, as well as downloads from earlier times when there were a lot more active jav forums, but my Internet was slow, hdd were expensive (I remember buying 250GB Maxtor disks and thinking they were huge) so its not a lot, I wish we had those forums + those Jav stars (Maria Ozawa, Risa Murakami, Yua Aida, Rika Tachibana, Yoko etc etc) today, I'd dl so much more.

I've started using Javinizer to organizer but will switch to JavLuv from here. But a lot of sites have removed all the keywords/genres that aren't PC, which is a shame, R18 is dead etc.

Question is how much hoarding is enough?

When you hoard until the point where you are spending extra money to keep it all, or when it starts affecting other aspects of your personal life, thats when it becomes enough imo. I was buying external HDDs just to keep it all, and the constant access of files off the externals is bad for it, makes it prone to break in the future, which is what happened. I would buy a replacement but it would be more money and larger capacity since my collection would grow since then. Eventually after my 4 TB external broke I decided enough was enough and nuked my collection. I would miss some of my ancient rare videos but it was better for my mental health too. It got to a point where I would skim through to my favorite scenes of multiple videos just to bust a nut. Essentially I was developing porn ADD. I also noticed I would hoard with stuff in my home that should be thrown out as garbage but I keep for the chance it may be useful in the future.

I rebuilt my collection when R18 closed because I wanted to keep what I paid for so now I sit on my R18 collection of about 60 videos but nothing more.

I absolutely agree with the second, but not the first unless the expenditure isn't viable financially.

If you're making and care about a collection then backup and disaster recovery should be a priority. I'd be one total loss away from walking away completely.

If you consider it a hobby and dedicate time to it, is it worth spending a little on to maintain?

I agree. Hoarding is a hobby (for me), and it's okay to spend money on your hobbies.

At first I was very adverse to spend any money on file hosting sites, but after it became apparent it was the only way to get high quality versions for many movies, I relented. I still felt like I was wasting money, but then I realized that JAV hoarding had become one of my biggest hobbies and I was spending so much time on it. Now I just embrace it. If I care this much, I can afford to spend some money to do it properly.

I did have Filejoker back in the day for a little while but I absolutely despise it (expensive for the shit daily limits). Tis a shame because it limits the usefulness of threads such as Slimedog's now for me and renders me a non-participant here outside of the forums.

Between Keep2Share and Fakirdebrid I've got some bases covered right now but I know I have to go the Nitroflare route sooner or later. Sooner, since links aren't active forever but I'm dreading the massive time investment on those.

Think I'm going to need to set up auto downloading on my NAS and queue up a fuck ton for that particular project...
