Despite hk people used to be so proud and belittle china, but a lot of older folks are very close minded. Cat 3 are like shameful porn to them even if it possess a real plot. They got their own tmz paparazzi snooping around. Tbh prostitutions and drugs is big in hk and they're just being hypocritical and pretentious. Nowadays, hk film more non-nude sex flicks like LAN Kwai fong and gigolos since no one wants to get shame by the public. The last few nude ones, they hired av idols, mainland and Taiwan models.

There are Hollywood even big budget (big name mainstream stars) ero-films for reference. Eyes wide shut, Showgirls etc. One of the best ever was Caligula, plenty of sex (but no genitals) and it's actually quite historical.

since the late 90s there are some JAV idols or ex JAV idols who performed in HongKong, Thailand and Indonesia, but I can't say those are real movies, as most are only B movies or softcore

Yup, as an Indonesian, I can confirm. Some of them could actually be considered "real movie" as they get theatrical release. One of the most high profile case of this is actress Rin Sakuragi starring in a horror movie called "Suster Keramas" if I am not mistaken. And it's not in 90's either, it was released in 2009.

As for Maria Ozawa, I think it was only for publicity stunt, as she didn't actually appear on tape at all, or at least as far as I know

She was in invitation only and one of those fan film where she plays herself. She's also in a few phillipine movies since she works there and she doesn't age well.

Yes they got the theatrical release, in Indonesia many b grade movies goes to theatre, especially horror comedy genre
