Keep2Share Promotion [Old]

Thought I'd give Keep2Share a try. May be the worst host I ever used with a measly 20 GB daily limit and download speed throttled down to 1/4 of my normal speed. Never again.

Please advise guys.. Trying to buy keep2share premium with a prepaid debit. The request keeps denying me. thank you

Save your money and use it to buy a premium membership for one of the popular mirror hosts. Keep2Share is a bad idea, badly implemented.

I've tried downloading from k2c links a couple of times now, but not only is the download speed always capped at 50kbps, but the download never finishes. it always drops at random size and the whole file has to be downloaded from scratch again. if i go back to try again, the site says i've reached my limits and have to wait for another 30 mins before i can start downloading again....are there any solutions to this at all or do i just have to wait for mirrors from now on?

Wow! Can you say Let's disassociate from K2S as soon as possible!

Even Oboom is under the magnifying glass. Eventually things can spider out and hit just about everything.
This blog is shit.
using cloudflare & no real contact-info, privacy-protected whois-information of the URL ...
i wouldn't hold that much about the blog.

moreover, the blog is a huge blasphemy. Every single host has warez on them. You just have to look for it - and since k2s isn't that small, it's only natural, that people will upload such files. Same goes for oboom etc.

well, the official thread of wjunction was moved or deleted - so i don't know what really was written there. the "new" thread, created by the people, is just shit, since nobody knows anything.
so all we can do is now wait and see what happens.
According to Jeff everything should be okay.

Doesn't seem to matter anyways, as I've noticed a large number of posts don't even include K2S or fileboom links at all. If K2S suddenly disappeared I'd doubt people would even notice since more and more people have to buy other subscriptions being that even fileboom now restricts content and deletes it off super fast on top of that.

Can someone give me a ballpark number on how much it would cost for akiba to have servers in which we would upload stuff to?

U know, our own server to DL and UL to/from??

Would it be expensive.......??:eek:

you are going into huge expense now, and depending on how many servers and back up, and the huge bandwidth, I would say $100,000 +, but again it will depend on what sort of service you want

@coolkevin isn't that wrong.
only hosting the stuff that's posted here on akiba is a huge amount - not to say the traffic etc.
under the 100k you shouldn't really think about starting s.th. like this.

on top of this, you have to deal with DCMA-Requestes, complains of users, etc.
so you need to provide them access or act within hours (the last time i checked, they request the deletion in a max of 4hours) - so you need a 24/7 stuff - which is also expensive.

and then a big problem: how to you gain money, to be able to buy the servers? Prem. Acc? PPD? PPS?
that's not as easy as it sounds - loads of hosters have started and are down within the first few month of business, since megaupload was shut down.

If you want it just for your own uploads, with a max of 1TB etc. it's not a big deal and can probably be done within a few hours and around 150$ per Month.
But a public service is s.th. completely different

I guess that was one of the reasons why they developed e.g. BitTorrent as everyone shares the costs. There you have unlimited bandwidth and space - theoretically. The problem: Your IP address is not anonymous. So many people tend to file hosters. But there - as coolkevin and C00Lzero already mentioned - you have to pay for the costs somehow. So you have to make money out of it. And the more bandwidth and space you need, the more money you need. I don't think that this is a way which would lead to something. Unfortunately.

Well, DMCA takedowns is a US centric problem, if you localize the server elsewhere you don't have to deal with them, although Akiba might have to move from a .com domain(.com, .org etc are considered US owned/US jurisdiction I think)
Also, the 4 hours sounds a bit extreme, I remember reading somewhere that the DMCA standard is(or at least it was) something like 48 hours which is a lot more reasonable.

Wouldn't it be possible to arrange something similar to http://bakabt.me/ and make torrents the default standard instead of filehosts for most content?
It ought to bring down monthly operating costs for Akiba, compared to running it's own filehost. Especially if it didn't run it's own tracker, BakaBT seems to be surviving on donations.
For people worrying about anonymity there are VPN's you can funnel your downloading through.

Maybe some refferal system for a VPN provider could be arranged similar to the previous/current ryushare/k2s system?

If you want to use torrent, then go the the torrent section, there's no need to change anything for that and it wouldn't bring down the cost of running akiba since they get sponsored by k2s for being the main filehost so it helps to pay the servers that are hosting the forum. If they were to run their own bittorent tracker(which they actually did in the past and probably stopped doing for a good reason), they would have to pay the full cost of the servers and the extra processing power required to run the tracker.

Most of the big uploaders use ddl site because they can earn money, not because it's better for downloaders. Personally, I don't like torrents because they take a lot more of my bandwidth and you get hammered with people trying to connect to you, even after you close the torrent software.

Usenet would be a better choice as a downloader since files last for years and the connections are super fast, but if it start to get used more, then JAV with also start to get DMCA takedowns from there.

90 or 30 days(depending on that person storage) after someone last downloaded them which means they could stay forever in theory.
