It's not exactly hard to just push the thank you button, so I dunno why the lurking legions don't do that.

well, it is nice that we're open to visitors... but yeah, I suppose there will always be ungracious people. >:

But hey, their loss! They're missing out on the best part: the forums! :)

It doesnt matter anyway im happy to give to the site :goodmood:

Logic states there have to be more leechers than there are seeders.
After all, without someone to upload to, you can't be a seeder.
But rather than saying there is too many leechers, I think it's better to say there's not enough seeders.
As with all things, moderation is key.

To uplaod for the community is fun, but when the torrents are permanently picked up for TokyoTosho by someone else and I have to seed for the whole world that was not the way it was planned...

When the community grows by my posting and maybe the number of guests is increasing to get more clicks to the site, o.k., but the way it works atm isn´t so funny at all...

Some people are absent-minded or don't think Rep is such a big deal. ^^; :dizzy: Anyone who was a member of the HongFire community several years back probably knows what I'm talking about when I say "I'm sick and tired of forum rep" ; my eyes pretty much ignore it these days. I realize now that some people's feelings get hurt when they're not repped/thanked, so I try to respect that and show them the thanks they deserve but I continue to forget to hit the Thanks button.

As for the original question ... I'm confused. What do you mean by leeches?
  • people who only use the forum for getting hentai and porn, and who don't bother to chat?
  • people who only use the forum for hentai and porn and chatting, and who don't click on the sponsors? (left side of screen)
  • people who don't help seed, i.e. they just download and run (that's what I think of when people talk about "leeches" or "leechers")
  • people who don't pay for their hentai? (which would be everybody here ranging from partial piracy to exclusive piracy)
  • or was this really about the Thanks button all along? o_o;

lol only way to stop unwanted leechers from other sites is to privatize trackers so that its exclusive only to akiba-online. but i dont think thats gonna happen

the messy internet

Whenever I intend to visit Akiba-Online, I always configure an anonymous proxy in my browser, because there are topics here which I do not want anybody in the real world to know I maintain an interest in them. :coldsweat:
Sometimes, the only working and safe proxies are slow, or they refuse connections occasionally. When that occurs, a lot of images, including members' avatars, do not appear; and the entire forum is more of an endurance test.
I strive to give reputation points and thank posters. But when my proxy is one of these slow ones, it is excruciating. So sometimes I have to skip this. :exhausted:
I am really sorry about this.

Eh.... dont care

Why even bother uploading if you don't want people to download/leech the pictures.

It's called unjustified paranoia, unless you're browing it at work. Which I would have no idea why you'd even want to do that, because you can't jerk off there.

I'm pretty new, but I've been starting new threads in hentai and posting alot of pictures there. The threads are all of popular artists or subjects, and I'm getting views, but no one else is posting. It's kind of lame when you try to get something going so that everyone can pitch in and everyone get enjoyment, but people just click and save instead of click and upload. This site offers too many good things, but if the admins aren't bothered it's cool, alot of other message boards make you jump through hoops for half of what you get here

I download a lot from torrents but I always seed for 1 day after I'm done (>1 day if there are only 1 to 10 seeders). I'd love to share stuff in this forum, but I really have nothing to share.

Let's not forget that with leechers, they also help seed even if they don't want to :D

I guess it's our policy.
It's something of a non-profit free for all, and most people simply take it for granted and mooch away.
What also causes us to have so many silent leeches is also what gives us as many great contributors as we have.
This site wouldn't be half the size it is if it wasn't so open.
So it's not all bad.

Nori, not everyone has (or feels that he has) access to novel and interesting stuff. I think that is the main reason people don't share: not because they are lazy or greedy, but because they are not as resourceful as the many contributors on A-O. We have people on A-O who are well-versed in Share/PD, who speak fluent Japanese, who may even live in Japan (and therefore have access to their sexy hi-speed internet which makes American broadband look like crippled ISDN by comparison), and who therefore far and away outdo the many "leechers" who come to A-O, an English-speaking forum where people find amazing stuff second-hand. A few people who find stuff on A-O go on to post it on smaller communities elsewhere, I've noticed, which shows that they're not all leeches.

Anyway, everyone does what he can. Just because a member hasn't created many threads doesn't mean he hasn't helped seed, reseed, etc., right? There are lots of steps along the way that all contribute to leechers receiving data from seeders. Anyone who helps out at any of those steps is part of the solution, not part of the problem.
