spot means that you've just found a file within the newsgroup. it has been uploaded by someone else.

spot is used as the normal English verb. I have spotted this posting in a newgroup and here is the title. You can cut-and-paste the title into a usenet search engine and then download the NZB file. If you have direct access to the newgroups (eg pan newsreader) then you will sometimes see an NZB file reposted into the appropriate newsgroup with spot added to the subject.
