What do think about the 'living doll' phenomenon in Japanese culture?

'Living dolls' are life-size dolls made in the image of an actual person, usually by means of a mold. You can buy dolls of women or young girls all with anatomically correct features, or what is generally referred to as a 'love' hole.

Here is one such website and this is only the English language version. Apparently, the young girl dolls do not automatically come with an artificial vagina, but one can be ordered.

I think it's one of two things, and it depends on the customer.

1) the ultimate in masturbation aids

2) a sign that he's given up on finding a real person to share his life with. Yes, given up: because no one is born or raised to want to marry a sex doll. That behavior has to be acquired and, imo, can only be acquired after years of loneliness and despair.

Thats a trottla doll, www.trottla.net, and they are not "functional"so to speak.
Its not a strictly japanese phenomenon either, realdoll in america has been active since the 90's i believe. Japan is the only country i know off which allows the sale of sex dolls in the form of a child, though.
 
Well, i guess no manufacturer wants to find that out!
And though not in the US, a lot of countries ban "virtual" child pornography, such as computer generated images. I guess a functional child doll could be seen as such.

From a psychological standpoint, there are truly great many fetishes in the world, just like Gengar mentioned. And as far as I remember from my psychology classes, there's even an established fetish for dolls. In my opinion this love doll is sort of aimed to people who view kids as sexual objects, but are too smart to ever actually go r*** a kid. Sort of like last resort before you actually have to go snatch your sisters little daughter or pay a visit to the nearest kindergarten.

Still, I view this thing as a little creepy. Imagine, you get a surprise visit from your family right when you're in the middle of something intimate with the doll, and there's no time to hide it while getting dressed at the same time.
