How come cutting and pasting do not work in the text fields of the 'Manage Attachments' applet ?

Are they text fields, or some other kind of object ?

They are standard HTML file input elements, found on 100s of millions of websites.

Do you mean the file pathname in those fields isn't editable? If so, that's just how your browser decides to render. A crappy design choice, IMO. I use Opera, which allows full editing of the text field part of an HTML file input element. (I can either use the Browse button or paste a pathname directly.)

It seems that, apart from your Internet Exploder browser, Firefox 3 also has the same "feature". Dumb, dumb, dumb!

Except with Firefox, you can install the excellent dragdropupload extension, which will allow you to simply drag any file directly onto the file input field, and automatically enter the correct path-to-file. It will even autofill multiple file input fields if you drag-and-drop multiple files at once. No typing out file paths, no browsing back and forth.

w3 not long ago decided that being able to input text into those elements was insecure, so a few versions of firefox ago (less than six months ago i think) it was changed so that those fields that look like you should be able to type are read-only.

Chrome is the same. Except they don't even bother showing it as a text input box anymore. More sensible imo.

Both browsers are just following the standards. It's annoying I know. But hey, it's always best to trade a little freedom for some perceived safety.
