Other sites that mainly use oron haven't really slowed down at all, only here seems to have. Don't see why people aren't just moving onto to the remaining hosts (rewards or not).

Is this sh*t for real?
I like the twist on Mega/Meega.
:joker:

Well said indeed! These hosting companies or others will crop up once this blows over, looks like mu is trying to comeback already with megaupload.net. :cheer: The biggest loss is the potential income for some members, and the money owed them as well as the many of us who just renewed our membership to some of these hosting sites.

RS scammed all my Collector points when they did their upgrade.
I boycotted them for a bit, but noticed the free user options were a little better.
I've used them as a 4th/5th option most of 2011, looks like I'll be using them a bit more now. Don't think I'll pay for premium cause we still don't know whats going down with all the SOPA/PIPA BS.

We could look @ it this way...
All the premium membership fees we paid goes toward legal fee for the Admins who are currently in jail.
When they get released, be sure they'll be up & running overseas.
This SOPA/PIPA BS is only a speed bump in the world of piracy. IMO

in case you cannot see page 23 although it is there and you use firefox:

you have to delete parts of the history by <strg> <shift> <del>

you can choose a few hours or the complete day for ex.

That sometimes happens with Firefox, and at other sites far more than at this one, as I myself have experienced.

The adult industry is going after Oron hardcore. They're next. There is a mega thread on one of the industry threads, at least 20 major players are basically making a lot of noise. Contacting local DAs, lawmakers, paypal and of course, their attorneys. Oron has really pissed them off, basically, Oron is banning any affiliates / uploaders that upload music, warez or hollywood movies but allowing porn. A lot of personal information about the owner, the forums they own, (like pornBB) and the incentives they've been giving big time uploaders is now out there.

Rapidshare is in trouble, they're being seen as the best alternative for mainstream movies and music. That puts them in the hotspot.

Hotfile will restrict downloading the same as FSC and FS by the end of this week! (a little birdie told me ;)).

so why isn't the USA gov arresting the admins of wikipedia, ebay, amazon, youtube, google and facebook for copyright infringements.

Youtube falls under the safe harbor law. If you've been paying attention to youtube, they've changed their operations drastically since they were dragged into court.

Partners are now allowed to display ads on videos they own the copyright on, they get to keep about 1/3 or 1/4 the profit earned on said advertisements. No copyrighted movies or music is allowed whatsoever in their partner program.

The ONLY videos that display monetizing advertisements are youtube partners now. Youtube partners are companies like MTV, CBS, ABC and of course, the private people.

I'm a youtube partner, I once had less than 10 seconds of a song in the credits of a video I made. Youtube found it within seconds of me uploading it, gave me a warning and deleted the video.

Megaupload, Filesonic, Oron, etc have been getting away with MURDER! They've been making 100s of MILLIONS by incentivizing uploaders to upload content that gets donwloaded often so people buy premium accounts. 99.99% of everything downloaded is STOLEN! It's one thing to share copyrighted content, it's a whole other to profit 100s of millions of dollars in the process.

Rapidshare has already faced a few lawsuits in europe, but they have won most of them, courts came to the conclusion that the service itself is legal, as long as they react to DMCA complaints. I don't think they are going down, but maybe they won't allow US ip addresses in the future.

"Won't allow US address.."

Is it what Uploaded.to doing at the moment? If you're in US, just use VPN to access it.

Just as an aside to all this, there is a notification on Google that their Terms of Use policy is changing with effect from 1st March. It reads as though alot more information is going to be shared about us as if we continue to use the service from that date. Look for a pop-up on the site when you first use it (may have to clear out temporary file cache before it appears).

Here is the direct link about this:

there is still torrents, can they stop that?

Sure they can. They can make it a crime to offer a Torrent program for download inside the USA or to even use one. They did such a thing with DVD Shrink didn't they?

If this happens, I'm going to pack up and move to Canada.

BTW I think the USA could care less about foreign movies. Especially porn.

Basically the USA can close down any website they want at any time as long as it's inside the USA. Look into a company named MFX and all those old obscenity cases.

My idea is that Megaupload just got stupid and didn't try hard enough to remove copyrighted Hollywood movies. I might be wrong and we'll never know.

No, they cannot ban hosts for allowing users to share as that is part of the nature of the internet; however they do object BIG TIME to the face that people were profiting hugely off of copyrighted material and that it knowingly went on in large amounts. Same thing with torrents... it cannot be illegal to torrent unless they prove it's copyrighted material.
I know people have zero trust in America after this; but SOPA hasn't passed and they won't go the way of China as the backlash will just be too massive.

It's pretty sad. My favourite uploaders akiva and manzakura stopped uploading the past few days (hope they will come back soon! I will get premium for whatever they go with), and taruhei closed his blog :scared:

Avoidable

I apologize for using colored text in this thread, but feel it will attract people's eyes to something they should have been doing all along.
While many other rush for the fallout shelter (and call a lawyer) after seeing their "premium" commercial uploading website(s) restrict access to their files, I will step into the breach to show them how they should have been doing it from the start.
Unfortunately for those of you on Akiba-Online; the rules here state that my upload is off-topic and thus, cannot be publicized here. :...:
So all I can tell you is that I uploaded 10.2 MB of {amateur creampie} videos to a semi-anonymous Japanese uploader. They're out here. I uploaded it behind an anonymous proxy hosted in Russia. I bet Russia doesn't respond to any subpoenas from the MPAA / RIAA in the USA.
I urge all content uploaders to look at these non-commercial, semi-anonymous Japanese uploaders. Truthfully, this is how they should have been doing it.
