I didn't get the chance to try v0.04, but v0.05 seems to be working just fine, it created the d2v and encoded the audio, and is a few minutes into the video encoding. And yeah, it's slow. Will check results tomorrow.

It shouldn't be any slower than MeGUI + x264 HQ CRF profile + TempGaussMC + NNEDI2, which is what you usually do, right?

Thanks to you all for all your hard work. I have seen a vid with this encode, and unfortunately, now everything in my collection is shit! Great! Humbly request re-encode of all the best of Akiba, especially Shihono Ryou, Sakura Aida, Erika Fujimiya, Miyuu Kanzaki, Yui Arioka, Asuka Izumi, Aira Mihana, Yui Inoue, Araki Nozomi, and Yukari Nakai! etc., etc., etc.!

THANKS!!!!

Heavens to Betsy! My dear RollyCo, if I didn't know better, I'd think you were suggesting that I...violate copyright!
I can't imagine who would stick up for an overbearing monopoly like Microsoft, even among the anti-piracy crowd. The only problem is that I probably wouldn't trust an OS I downloaded off the net. I mean, how would you know it didn't have some backdoor or something buried deep in the code? On the other hand, it looks like the JP version is even more of a ripoff than usual. Do you have access to the academic versions that cost a tiny fraction of the retail price?

Yup. but normally I have TGMC config'd with 'rep0=0, SVthin=0.0' which gives me a little boost. Don't know if you have Megu IV setup that way.

The first time I tried it, it was 40% slower than normal. I just tried it again and now it's only about 20% slower. I'm pretty sure the problem is my pc. It usually takes a couple of encodes to get it going.

You can always reconfigure the "[IV]" Avisynth, x264, or OneClick presets to your liking, if you want. You don't have to stick with the defaults I provide.

Megu IV Avisynth Presets
  • [IV] High Quality
    • Uses TempGaussMC_beta1(2, 1, 1, EdiMode="NNEDI2")
  • [IV] Medium Quality
    • Uses TempGaussMC_beta1(2, 1, 1, EdiMode="NNEDI2", rep0=0, SVthin=0.0)

Megu IV x264 Presets
  • [IV]High Quality
    • 19.5 CRF
  • [IV] Medium Quality
    • 20.0 CRF

Megu IV OneClick Presets
  • [IV] Best Quality
    • Uses [IV] High Quality x264 preset
    • Uses [IV] High Quality Avisynth preset
  • [IV] Faster Encode
    • Uses [IV] High Quality x264 preset
    • Uses [IV] Medium Quality Avisynth preset
  • [IV] Smaller Filesize
    • Uses [IV] Medium Quality x264 preset
    • Uses [IV] High Quality Avisynth preset
  • [IV] Smaller Filesize & Faster Encode
    • Uses [IV] Medium Quality x264 preset
    • Uses [IV] Medium Quality Avisynth preset

I agree on all points. Out of curiosity, I gave the torrent a try, but there were zero seeders. Yeah, I'll probably buy the academic edition.

I've been using this for a few weeks... started with the one-click thing but it is better for me to go the long way as I like to include the menus (or parts of them anywas), pictures, etc. The one click high Q profile is the same as the one used normally?

I notice that dot crawl and rainbow effects still happen, is it my computer lacking processing power I do I have to add another filter to take care of this?

The one click high Q profile...
There's no "high Q" OneClick profile. Are you talking about the "[IV] Best Quality" OneClick profile?

...is the same as the one used normally?
"Normally?" I'm not sure what you mean. The "[IV] Best Quality" OneClick profile uses the "x264: [IV] High Quality" preset. You can look and adjust the preset by pressing the Config button on the main window. It's the same thing as the official "Unrestricted 1pass Const. Quality HQ" preset, with three changes: deblocking set to 0:0, quality set to 19.5, and keyframe interval set to 190.

dot crawl and rainbow effects
Those problems have to be addressed by discrete filters. Cut an untouched 10MB clip from the VOB with DGIndex so we can see the problem.

Yes, I mean the x264 High Quality from the normal MeGUI window as opposed to the Best Quality from the one-click option. Once I tried to join files and got an error, but I dunno if I changed something, I delete the sandbox often so I would use the default options and I guess I will use only the normal window from now on.

The rainbow is more evident in the Hana Haruna scene where there are windows blinds, I'll see if I still have the iso... I have not used avisynth in years, but I don't remembe those problems being easy to solve, they're kinda annoying...

Thanks

I mean, how would you know it didn't have some backdoor or something buried deep in the code?

Test in a virtual sandbox environment (VirtualBox, VMWare, etc).

Also just to offer an anecdotal counterpoint, when I used to install XP straight from legit retail discs, I would always end up with spyware/adware that always crept its way into the OS, even with Windows Update patches. After switching to pirated copies and using trimming tools like nLite, I have had no major spyware, adware, viruses, etc; and I don't even use software firewalls or virus scanners anymore.

Microsoft has to cast a net so wide with its retail copies that there are always big holes waiting to be exploited. While pirated versions always run some sort of risk, a surprisingly large number of them are competently patched/secured precisely because Microsoft was too blind to see its own problems. And with Microsoft that's pretty much how it works: hackers prey on people who are using default Windows settings and have no idea how to protect themselves; the vast majority of modified Windows copies are modified to be more secure, not less.

Personally I would never touch a modified (by someone else) edition of any Windows OS. It's very easy to break functionality in subtle ways that aren't immediately apparent. I've done to myself many times. I find the best thing for XP is to slipstream stuff yourself, and go easy on the nLite tweaks and so forth.

BTW, is there a Windows 7 nLite-like project in the works somewhere? Last I heard, vLite was abandoned.

I've found another clip which has the rainbow problem:

hxxp://rapidshare.com/files/263108483/V.rar

I tried some filters but it doesn't seem to help at all, what would be the better one or most recommended?

Those wavy lines on Ai's shirt aren't rainbows nor are they dot crawl. Those two types of artifacts are caused by imperfect composite transfer of video signals. You will almost certainly never see either on an idol DVD.

No, you see the wavy effect because the lines on the shirt are finer than the camera can capture/process. The only way to fix it is to re-film the scene at a higher resolution, then downsize. Or use a better camera. It's too late for that, of course.

You could perhaps apply some smoothing to that particular scene only, but you'll destroy a lot of detail in the process. Not worth it, IMO.

Do you have a version that works for SSE2 processors? Mine does not have SSE3.

or do you know of any other programs that are similar?

Megu IV is made specifically for people that encode Idol and porn DVDs, which always need to be deinterlaced.

I don't know about others, but for me the (pre-configured, super-high quality) deinterlacer is the whole point of Megu IV.

A very recent update for my antivirus (Antivir) detects the backdoor "BDS/Posion.aoxo" in one of the Megu IV files: cvtres.exe. This may not be false positive: this file is supposed to be part of the Microsoft .NET framework, but does not match the same file on other clean machines. It has a totally different size and does not carry the copyright/version information that all Microsoft .exes have. The file is restored by Megu IV each time it is run. I can find no further information about this particular backdoor.

That's a false positive. cvtres.exe is a file generated by the Microsoft 32-bit .Net Framework v2.0.50727. Due to the way .NET native images are generated, the hash will be different on each computer. Here's mine, go ahead and upload your copy to http://virustotal.com and you'll see the same results:

Furthermore, delete the file and Megu IV restores it when it is run again, which is rather virus-like.
Nothing suspicious about that, it's how the Xenocode packager works. All files generated or modified after starting the Megu IV.exe virtual application are saved inside of the Sandbox folder. See http://www.xenocode.com/Support/Kb/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=93&topicid=11
