And don't get me started on claiming that a rip from a wmv is a quality rip(the current available methods suck at keeping the original quality when the DRM is removed which has nothing to do with the person ripping it) or we'll be arguing all day and night about it since they make my eyes bleed.

There really is no moral high ground around these parts when we're all technically pirating and (re)distributing goods illegally.

That said, 7898789 has never said anything to me despite multiple re-encodes I've done of his copies. There was an issue back with another member who re-encoded his vids and removed the watermark. 7898789 explicitly said that he took offense to the watermark removal because he wanted people to know they could get the vid for free from him. (Which is why I make sure to credit him.) I can't confirm it since I can't read Chinese but the watermark apparently says something to that effect. 7898789 said his ultimate goal was free sharing, not the money.

I very much appreciate 7898789's great contributions but 'quality' is subjective. Yes, you lose video quality every time you re-encode something, so my re-encodes are technically of lesser video quality. But if you compare them side-by-side, almost 100% of the time, you won't find a difference. (Viewing from a computer at least.) But my re-encodes are 40-80% smaller. Basically same quality, significantly smaller size. There's no half-assery here.

2GBs don't make much of a difference. But in the long run, it could mean the difference of having 500 vids instead of 100-300 on your hard drives. A lot of members here appreciate the option of having a smaller file. Not all of us can download and/or store enormous files, or buy external storage on the fly.
