Am I not finding where this has been talked about already? I did a number of searches different ways but didn't find anything.

Netflix has a series out now about the Japanese Porn scene in the 80's?

I so far watched the first two episodes and it's great. Definitely better than your average J-drama.

As an industry otaku (the business end of JAV, behind-the-scenes, etc.) and a lover of the 80's, I'm loving it.

They're definitely dramatizing a lot of what happened, but Toru Muranishi really did have a crazy time entering the industry (or what became "JAV" in the years that followed).

Also, the on-screen nudity so far isn't that intense. GoT has more T&A than this does.

It's a bit off but this trend is bothering me. Nudity is added in almost every TV show or movie and most of time, a sex scene is added from nowhere. And people say blame porn for "givng a bad example to teens". Porn isn't on TV during the day and even at night (for most TV channels). So a kid can't stumble upon a porn movie by accident ... unlike TV shows.
Plus, personally, if I want to see sex, I watch a porn movie, that's it.

Back to the drama, the first pic turned me off lol.

Episode 3 *may* have more nudity than an average episode of GoT. Just finished that one last night.

They're definitely taking Toru's story and giving it engaging (and absolutely fanciful) dramatic twists, but I do like how it shows that since day one you've had adult production companies and the gov't in a never-ending war of "how much pussy can we show".
Studios hate obscuring private parts and I like that the Naked Director is big on showing this ongoing battle from essentially day one.

My only caveat so far is it seems to be showing Toru as a legendary figure on his own when already in the mid 80's there were a few other players doing pretty much the same thing.
I mean V&R Planning got started around this time too.
