Quick newbie question.

How do you open the downloads that are numbered with the suffix "avi.001 - avi.0--"

I tried changing them to .rar and .zip but I can't uncompress them or anything.

If I place them in VLC, only the first one, (avi.001) will work.

Am I supposed to use something like Vobdub to stitch them together or something?

Pardon me, if this is an uber-obvious question. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

very easy. if you have a .001 file, you'll definately have .002 and .003 etc. all u gotta do, is treat it as a rar file (dont change the suffix), unrar .001 file (good idea is to use 7-zip) and there u have your avi file in 1 piece! :perfectplan:

Most likely you need HJSplit > http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

7z uses a similar naming, but it should look like x.7z.001, x.7z.002, etc. and you can simply extract those to join.

RAR files currently use x.part1.rar, x.part2.rar, etc. Old split RAR files used x.r00, x.r01, etc.

I personally think people should learn to make use of the split capabilities of 7z or RAR and just drop HJSplit, but to each his own, I suppose.
