Please see my post, 'No more adults, please' for my response

... rather than bump my own thread...

Actually I changed my mind. I will comment. Akiba-online is not what you want it to be, it is what our gracious host intended it to be, a forum for all things Japanese and that includes Japanese porn, anime, and Junior Idol.

What offends me is 'pornography' of any kind. It is degrading to women. It does not celebrate beauty, it shames it. And nothing is ever enough. There is nothing beautiful about a woman getting pissed on, or drinking a cup of semen, or being tied and beaten and then r***ing. Beauty is not enough. It is for people with horribly debilitating sexual dysfunction; people who need to shame and humiliate the object of their attraction in order to get an erection.

Junior Idol is none of those things. It is just girls being girls. Beauty and nothing more.

If you came here for porn then why don't you go somewhere else if you are offended? You can get porn anywhere. You can't get Junior Idol anywhere but here.

coming to Akiba and complaining about JIV is like going to Japan and complain about their language.

IIRC this place has -almost literally- been founded on idols, so what's with the fuss?
if you can't stand it, just leave.

personally, and after a couple animated discussions, i chose to stay and ignore the parts of the forum i'm not comfortable with.

I was just looking for a thread such as this. I come to Akiba to see vids of ADULT women, not little girls. I just scrolled past a torrent of a little girl in a bikini who couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old. It's a recent post. I don't care if the girl in the video perhaps just prances around or whatnot, no one can defend such a video as intended other than to satisfy someone's prurient interest in little girls. Yes, I exercised my right not to download the video but the posting of such things speaks to a problem that too many are silent on. Yes, I sound like I'm preaching and I expect some to attack me for saying this but I would like to see such postings removed. This is an adult site and I would like to see it only for, by and of adults. Thanks for listening.

you exercised your right not to download the video but you didn't even exercised the right to understand the background of the place you were going to. complaining of JIs is akin to complaining about a part of japanese culture. such complains/reactions/opinions have no foot to stand on especially they don't even understand the culture to it and they haven't even fully known such culture.

this is an adult japanese-related site, not a mere adult site. akiba is a japanese-related site. everything you see here is japanese related. if you're not comfortable with it, leave or ignore the parts that you don't like.

I was just reading an article in Scientific American about Thomas Kuhn and his understanding about science, and I am quoting what he says about culture and languages:
" ...our paradigms keep changing as our culture changes. “Different groups, and the same group at different times, can have different experiences and therefore in some sense live in different worlds.” Obviously all humans share some responses to experience, simply because of their shared biological heritage. But whatever is universal in human experience, whatever transcends culture and history, is also “ineffable,” beyond the reach of language. Language, Kuhn said, “is not a universal tool. It’s not the case that you can say anything in one language that you can say in another.”

This provides some insight into the differences in the ability of some, as to the understanding other cultures and languages. Some ideas just cannot be translated or understood between cultures if it is based on differing foundations.
I, for one hope that Japan can retain much of its own unique individuality.

I am fully aware of the culture behind it and whether you choose to believe it or not, many Japanese share the same opinion as I. Simply because this sort of stuff is legal within the culture doesn't mean that it is acceptable to most. Many Japanese recognize it as a deeply ingrained problem within their society that will not be easy to do away with. My complaint has plenty of leg to stand upon.

have to thank you because i totally agree, but what you fail to understand is that this is no place to raise such complaints.

go talk to producers (and maybe to some fkd up parents while you're at it), not to end users, because that's pointless.

desu has already covered what i would say on where to complain and where currently you stand, i would only add something: how come the JI industry still flourishes despite many japanese recognizing it as a deeply ingrained problem as you say so ?

I think the 6 year olds in bikinis is strange and that most of you should be leery of that particular interest; however that's just my opinion and it's very generalized. I don't know what journeys any of you have been through which have brought you all to a state where you are attracted to such content so I can't really judge any further than what I have said already. This site has a wide variety of awesome content other than preschool girls in bikinis, so I that's what I look at. I don't have to look at those jr threads. We are all complex individuals so rather than condemn we should try to understand but due to Americas schizophrenic justice and religious system it has infected the rest of the world so now our first reaction is the prosecute and charge. I'm against that.

So I'm fine with Akiba the problem is when America and Europe have had it with sites like these. We may be screwed when they discover what people post here. In the mean time let's have fun guys while we can.

You guys can have a little laugh at my contradictions and hypocrisy in this post, but hey I'm human.

That is not so easily explained. Such things are not so easily gotten rid of as I have said. Old traditions/behaviors die hard in Japan. Anyone who has spent significant time in Japan (as I have) will tell you that. Publicly, many Japanese will quietly acquiesce on such issues while privately they will tell you that they don't like it. Japanese have a phobia about rocking the boat which is probably best reflected in their phrase, ”しょうがない” (shouganai). While it is not a uniquely Japanese phrase, it is reflective of a mindset of resignation to how things are and have existed.

Look, I'm not here to argue with anyone but the forum exists to discuss things and express opinions. This opinion is mine and I'll keep it, thank you very much. The mere fact that this thread exists shows that I'm not alone in my thoughts.

Like I said in my first post in this thread, I exercised my right not to view the material. It doesn't mean that I shouldn't have a viewpoint on other things.

Did I say you should'nt have a viewpoint NO I did'nt I said IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE WAY THE SITE IS RUN DON'T COME HERE. That still stands so why are you still here ?

Ther rest of your post is typical anti porn crap. I'm "normal" and most "normal" people don't like porn. Slight problem with that is, there is NO SUCH thing as "normal" Also you have NO IDEA what most people in japan think about. Just because YOU don't like it, that does'nt mean everone else does'nt. Stop projecting YOUR opinions on to everyone else to back up your own narrow mind set. Oh and before you start the classic retort of you must be a pedo then. NO I'm NOT I'm defending the RIGHT to look at LEGAL stuff. Its not something I want to look at but once you start leting people like YOU decide what people can and can not look at, things will only ever get worse. This reminds me of a famous saying by Martin Niemöller

First they came for the communistsand I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

This is directed to DerekJ more than anyone else I suppose:
Yes, you have a right to your opinion and a right to express your opinion just like everyone else here. But, it seems that you are indeed only here to argue your point because you are still here. I believe Ninjamaster018 questioned the reasoning behind peoples fascination with young girls in bikinis. I read somewhere that a famous japanese person (I forget who) said he watched young idols after a stressfull day at work because of its calming and relaxing effect. Myself, I enjoy watching the young models because it reminds me of happier more innocent times of my youth. In many of the older models you can see the stress of life in their eyes from trying to make a living in this fast-paced world. But, the younger models are happy and seem stress-free as they pose happily envisioning a world that loves them. And, their carefree actions and attitudes (yes, even blooming sexual actions and attitudes) are contagious, and they make me feel happy and elated as well.
I think it is very important to not destroy or condemn this idol culture because it brings so much pleasure and happiness to the people who enjoy it.

Oh, for crying out loud...from where in my posts did you get anti-porn? You need to learn how to comprehend what you read. Cut the Martin Niemoller crap. That's not what I am about. It is you who would appear to want to shut down an opinion that you don't agree with. I am all about freedom of expression, thought and action. However, there are limits...especially when kids are involved.

Contrary to what you think, I DO have an idea of what many in Japan feel about such things because I spend significant time there every year and I have had discussions with Japanese ON THIS VERY SUBJECT. Obviously, I haven't talked to more than a tiny fraction of the population but I have had discussions with my many friends and to a person, they find it disturbing but feel that it is unlikely to change. Hence my previous post.

@frogleg: I do like to debate...I do it professionally. I am familiar with the famous person you refer to though the name escapes me at present as well. Yes, the younger models are said to be happy and carefree but I question those who put them in front of the camera and for all intents and purposes, sexualize them. Who looks out for these kids especially when there is a buck to be made. Yes, some would say it is part of Japan's かわいい culture that such things exist but there is a cost in the innocence of these kids. It thus should not surprise anyone that given this environment, women's rights in Japan generally lag behind the rest of the industrialized world. I know this comes off as preachy but there you have it. I know I'm in the minority in this forum with my opinion but I'm accustomed to taking unpopular positions.
