:warning: Has anyone gotten this file to actually play? First off, according to DivFix, it's not an .avi file which may account for why it freezes MPC, VLC, Crystal Player Pro & Nero Showtime on my computer.

I even d'ld it a second time from another board and had the same problem all over again.

The file is working fine, but it's actually a .mkv so you need something that can handle that container like Haali matroska splitter. The video codec is h.264/AVC so you need something that can play it or enable it in what you already have. Or maybe simply renaming the extension will remove the confusion the player has since VLC should be able do handle it without installing anything(but is a horrible player in my opinion). The sound is AC3 but the video should play even if the sound isn't supported, but you can always check if it's enabled if you know how.

If you can't get it to work, try updating your player or follow the install for cccp or the manual one from the "Play 10bit videos" tutorial in my signature. The video isn't actually 10bit, but a clean install of either will make sure most video will play fine without errors.

What I still don't really get is that I'm able to routinely play back matroska files on the players I've got--whatever their update status--but for some reason this one was a no-go.

When you have multiple codec for the same thing which happen often in codec packs it can cause conflicts in some rare cases(and even more often with VLC). I've seen it happen a couple of times over the years so that's why I prefer to manually install what I need since it prevent conflicts.

It was encoded with Kirara encoder which I've never seen before(probably because it's in some asian language) so maybe it does something different that your system doesn't like.

Edit: It also has weird settings like being exactly 30FPS(should probably be 29.970FPS) which make me think the encoder didn't know much about encoding so it doesn't help for compatibility with players.
