South Korea introduces 'chemical castration' for paedophiles

I'm no psychologist, but from what I understand sexual repression of any kind can manifest itself in horrible ways. Assuming I'm correct, then this chemical castration might have some serious long term repercussions. I'm torn on this issue because I to want kids to be safe but at what cost?

I dont think abstinence is an unhealthy way to live, perhaps undesirable but not unhealthy. One might prefer chemical castration as opposed to the real thing. Not that either one is on my to do list.

i have to agree here. in theory suppressing the hormones/chemicals that are seen to be the cause of sexual drive seems safer than just taking away one tool that can be utilised for intercourse. in fact castration would inevitably lead to sexual crimes using much less desirable items for penetration (that said, intercourse is only one small part of the whole).
anyway, isnt sexual repression focused on suppressing the urges? if this treatment stops the chemicals/hormones that create these urges then there is no need for repression. kinda like a nicotine patch?

Very strange law for the Asian country. In Asia has never been hysteria about "pedophiles". Age of consent in South Korea - 13 years old, North Korea - 15 years, China - 14 years.

Koreans actually raise their age by up to 2 years. It is rather complicated process. Simply stated when a child is born it is considered 1 year old. Also on the New Year everyone is 1 year older. In other words, your stated age does not change on your birth date but on New Year's Day.

Presumably however the stated age on 'Age of Consent' laws uses Western ages.

However, there are other laws which are used in Korea to protect minors and prosecute individuals for engaging in sexual contact with a child or exposing a child to a sexual environment, who is older than 13 but younger than 18, namely the Juvenile Protection Act.

Huh?!?!? Your first and last sentence seem to contradict one another, (and the other sentence would be offensive to many Japanese I think). None of what you have stated here seems very accurate, (if we were just talking about highschool girls then maybe). Don't feel bad, I have had a few mistaken notions in my time.

i thought japan forbid any form of paedophilia? i've read that before 1995-97 something they do have some sort of lax in law that allows younger (i.e highschoolers) to be a "model" but since then it is completely forbidden although porn in general are legalized, try nederland? they got a paedophile party in the government... well at least thats what they tried to.. and until last year where they disband themselves after realizing thats a big ass FAILandalaugh:andalaugh:
